The Marie So recipe : a mixture of bossa nova and samba rythms blended with a decidedly jazz swing and a large dose of spontaneity, simplicity and generosity all sung in French.Henri Salvador may no longer be with us, but Marie So plays tribute to his musical heritage with her original French-bossa nova touch. The world ambassadors of French hot jazz are presenting their highly anticipated first full-length CD “Je Suis Swing”, a tribute to the Zazou youth of 1930s and 40s Paris, with a mix of American and French jazz standards, sprinkled with hidden gems. They have traveled the globe from New York to Fiji, from hidden speakeasies to Lincoln Center, spreading France’s proverbial joie de vivre, led by singer Tatiana Eva-Marie, named one of her generation’s “finest rising vocalists” by magazine Vanity Fair. She will be joined by violin virtuoso Adrien Chevalier and young guitar wizard Olli Soikkeli, complementing her vocals with the iconic sound of the Hot Club De France. Their repertoire will include the music made famous by Charles Trenet, Yves Montand, Django & Grappelli, Jean Sablon and more, with original arrangements that reflect the innocent decadence of the Parisian jazz age.

Since the 1980s, French trumpeter Stéphane Belmondo has been a well-known figure in clubs, from Paris to New York. He has collaborated with jazz personalities such as Dee DeeBridgewater, Horace Silver and Lee Konitz. Above all, Belmondo knows what jazz is all about: with a profound respect for tradition, he explores new paths in complete freedom. Along with forays into classical music and that of Stevie Wonder, among others, his name remains inextricably linked to the musical experiments of the Belmondo Quintet. Belmondo’s distinctive sound flows naturally, like musical poetry; somewhere between Freddie Hubbard and Chet Baker. The latter needs hardly any introduction. The American trumpeter/singer Chet Baker made his mark on the history of jazz like no other, until passed away before his time in 1988. Belmondo’s fascination with Baker has now inevitably led to the tribute ‘Love For Chet’, to be released in spring 2015. http://www.gentjazz.com/en/concerts/stephane-belmondo-trio/

Anne Ducros is a French jazz singer born in 1959 in Longfossé ( Pas-de-Calais ). She has recorded seven albums under her name, has taken part in other recordings as a guest and has earned an excellent reputation in the vocal jazz community. She defines her approach in this way: "My quest is to try to find the perfect harmony between the instinctive power that can be developed with jazz and how to channel this instinct with classical erudition with A proper aesthetic will ".  She began her musical studies with classical singing at the Conservatory of Music of Boulogne-sur-Mer with Lyne Dourian. Then, in addition to studying law at the University of Lille , she studied singing with Yuri Lov Anoff and Mady Mesplé . She works on baroque music ( Bach , Couperin , Handel , Rameau ), the solos of the great voices of jazz like Sarah Vaughan or Ella Fitzgerald , and the scat  . On a heart-stroke and thanks to the baroque and classical music that make her progress, she was introduced to jazz in 1986  and founded a quartet with which she presented herself in different competitions. In 1989 , with several awards, she recorded her first album, Do not You Take a Chance . His stage activity gained momentum, in the circuit of jazz clubs as in certain international scenes, sometimes in the company of René Urtreger ( 1992 ). Several encounters, such as the one with the bassist Ray Brown reinforce it in its artistic orientations .

His repertoire is eclectic, mixing modern and original arrangements of jazz standards , pop songs or compositions of classical musicians. During the years 1992 - 1993 she teaches vocal jazz at the ARPEJ of Paris and since 1994 she is director of Prélude , the first vocal jazz school in Paris. She also teaches courses and master classes around the world ( Aix-en-Provence , Le Havre , Chicago , Calvi , Brussels ...). It is within the community of musicians that its reputation spreads: one greets its stamp of contralto, its energy, its sense of the swing. The recognition comes thanks to the support of the violinist Didier Lockwood , which allows him to record Purple Song , accompanied by pianist Gordon Beck , published on the label Dreyfus Records in 2001 . Since then, she has recorded a new album on the same label every two years, but at the same time, she participates in many other recordings as a guest. In 1995, for example, Anne Ducros participates in the recording of Friday 14 with Luigi Trussardi and poses her voice on certain tracks of this album, released on the label Elabeth. In 2008 , she was hired as a singing teacher for Season 8 of Star Academy on TF1 (September 19 to December 19, 2008). When asked, on a special radio station ( TSF Jazz ), during a live interview of the Duke of Lombards on September 8, what can be the relationship between this reality show and jazz, she replies "I will Bringing jazz to an hour when, in general, it happens so little (...) The place of a jazz musician is wherever you want to share emotion, love, Happiness and joie de vivre (...) We were forced to move a few concerts, but it was extremely easy . In 2010 , Anne Ducros recorded Ella ... my dear , an album in tribute to Ella Fitzgerald which she particularly likes, whose arrangements are written by Ivan Jullien . In 2013, she released under the label NAÏVE Either way ... from Marilyn to Ella. In 2016, she meets the pianist and composer Robert Kaddouch in Paris, during a concert at the Sunside. It seems that the sound universe brought by the arrangements of this pianist opened new ways (voice). Translate by google https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anne_Ducros

There is little information about European jazz singer Anne Ducros within the liner notes to Piano, Piano, but she clearly endeared herself to each of the four guest pianists with whom she worked on her CD. She soars in the lush setting of "Never Let Me Go," where she packs an emotional punch, though her tripping over a few words slightly handicaps her interpretation of Billie Holiday's "God Bless the Child." One of Europe's greatest jazz pianists, Enrico Pieranunzi, joins her for the powerful rendition of "You Go to My Head" and a graceful take of "Moon and Sand." She came to the United States in order to work with Chick Corea, singing "Les Feuilles Mortes" (Autumn Leaves) in its original language in a terrific duet and adding some humorous horn-like scatting reminiscent of Ella Fitzgerald on-stage. Both her lyrical "My Foolish Heart" and explosive "Body and Soul" are just as effective. Another veteran European pianist, René Urtreger, is paired with Ducros for a gently loping duet of "I Thought About You" and anchoring the rhythm section for another Ella-like scat exhibition in the swinging "Just in Time." Benoît de Mesnay, who doubles on piano and Fender Rhodes in "Four" (where she once again scats up a storm) and joins her for the swinging interpretation of "Naima," is evidently her regular accompanist. All in all, this is a very enjoyable effort. ~ Ken Dryden  http://www.allmusic.com/album/piano-piano-mw0000404358

Michel Petrucciani / Ron McClure - Cold Blues

?Michel Petrucciani's last European recording before hooking up with Blue Note, this set of duets matches the tiny but powerful pianist with bassist Ron McClure. They perform post-bop explorations of four originals (including an ad-lib "Cold Blues"), "Autumn Leaves" and "There Will Never Be Another You." The interplay between the two musicians is impressive, but although McClure plays a prominent role, Petrucciani is clearly the dominant force. Worth searching for.

13. Cocodildudi (2:52)
14. Happy Feet (3:47)

Eric Le Lann had the idea of an album tribute to Antonio Carlos Jobim following his participation in 2002 in the albumWinter Garden Henri Salvador very influenced by bossa nova. How to play the 2005 Jobim without falling into cliché, déjà vu? How to renew the genre after jazz giants like Stan Getz, Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie  Byrd? Simply playing purer, simpler in. Le Lann has put a damper on his trumpet, Ecay took his acoustic guitar. They agreed to play songs little known, in the most pure way as direct as possible. Likewise, the sound is crisp, direct. As the attacker to the point, they go to the heart.

Ipanema girl is not the appointment. You will recognize from the standard "Corcovado", "Desafinado". The version of "Aguas do Março" now mell into my head to the original and to the French version of Georges Moustaki "Waters of March". Are also included a version of "Portrait in Black and  White" Eric Le Lann played in duo with Martial Solal in 1999. Vannes Jazz Festival Every musician is entitled to his composition. "Arm" to Ecay, "Arabia" for Le Lann, compositions that fit perfectly among the songs of Jobim. The dry sound of the trumpet of Le Lann mingles wet sound of the guitar of Ecay. An acoustic fusion. A music taste drip, note by note, in the early hours of the day and night. We were expecting this album forward. To listen every morning to make sure the day will be sunny. ~ Translate by google  http://www.citizenjazz.com/Eric-Le-Lann-Jean-Marie-Ecay.html

Not just an album of interpretations, King Kong: Jean-Luc Ponty Plays the Music of Frank Zappa was an active collaboration; Frank Zappa arranged all of the selections, played guitar on one, and contributed a new, nearly 20-minute orchestral composition for the occasion. Made in the wake of Ponty's appearance on Zappa's jazz-rock masterpiece Hot Rats, these 1969 recordings were significant developments in both musicians' careers. In terms of jazz-rock fusion, Zappa was one of the few musicians from the rock side of the equation who captured the complexity not just the feel of jazz, and this project was an indicator of his growing credibility as a composer. For Ponty's part, King Kong marked the first time he had recorded as a leader in a fusion-oriented milieu (though Zappa's brand of experimentalism didn't really foreshadow Ponty's own subsequent work). Of the repertoire, three of the six pieces had previously been recorded by the Mothers of Invention, and "Twenty Small Cigars" soon would be. Ponty writes a Zappa-esque theme on his lone original "How Would You Like to Have a Head Like That," where Zappa contributes a nasty guitar solo. The centerpiece, though, is obviously "Music for Electric Violin and Low Budget Orchestra," a new multi-sectioned composition that draws as much from modern classical music as jazz or rock. It's a showcase for Zappa's love of blurring genres and Ponty's versatility in handling everything from lovely, simple melodies to creepy dissonance, standard jazz improvisation to avant-garde, nearly free group passages. In the end, Zappa's personality comes through a little more clearly (his compositional style pretty much ensures it), but King Kong firmly established Ponty as a risk-taker and a strikingly original new voice for jazz violin. ~ Steve Huey https://www.allmusic.com/album/king-kong-jean-luc-ponty-plays-the-music-of-frank-zappa-mw0000099048

Cyrille Aimée's latest album may come as a shock to fans of the French vocalist. Gone is the light, bubbly approach that has been her hallmark. Aimée is now a "musical interpreter," no less, and is devoting a whole album to the late works of American composer Stephen Sondheim. Except for Adrien Moignard's acoustic guitar on "So Many People," she has discarded her marvelous manouche backing band, depriving her of the interplay that made her recent stint at New York's Poisson Rouge so enjoyable. She is now accompanied by American studio musicians and highly professional though they may be the chaleur and charm of her work is gone. Whether these songs deserve her devotion is also debatable. Sondheim is fast approaching his 90th birthday. We're a world away from West Side Story, first staged on Broadway in 1957, and from A Little Night Music and its hit "Send In The Clowns" from 1973. Sondheim's recent work is frankly stodgy, with an over emphasis on words and not enough attention paid to the music. "No One Is Alone" makes a philosophical point rather than entertains. "Marry Me A Little" is plain outdated. "So Many People" hints at the writer's confusion as an octogenarian in the modern world. Aimée copes pretty well. Occasional bursts of scat singing show she can still do jazz, and perhaps indicate nervousness concerning her change of direction. Her affection for these Sondheim songs seems genuine. Underneath her frothy French persona, Aimée is a tough cookie who will undoubtedly weather the storm should the rest of the world not share her enthusiasm. ~ Chris Mosey https://www.allaboutjazz.com/move-on-a-sondheim-adventure-cyrille-aimee-mack-avenue-records-review-by-chris-mosey.php

With this fourth CD released in February 2008, Les Pommes de ma Douche, a quintet Blésois that no longer presents have decided this time to celebrate the popular Paris, that of Ménilmuche, Pigalle, the hill and the bastoche. And so it is 14 themes all dedicated to our capital that offers us here our five musicians in full form; while the Delaveau father and son ensure a still very effective rhythm, our three excellent soloists (Dominique Rouquier on guitar, David Rivière on accordion and Laurent Zeller on violin) very verve, compose very pretty solos. If the apples have never claimed to compete with the champions of style, their music is always borrowed nice notes, fun to play and a sense of swing! And then virtuoso point of view, after Tchavolo Schmitt in the first album, it is here the guitarist Raphaël Faÿs who comes to make sing his Argentines on two titles boosted by the maestria of the prestigious guest ( Swing from Paris , Paris once).  And as for the repertoire, beyond the inevitable expected of Trenet ( Ménilmontant, Revoir Paris ), Lemarque ( A Paris ), Aznavour ( I love Paris in May), Maurice Chevalier ( Fleur de Paris ), etc ... Apples had the delicacy to register us some pretty rarities like the deliciously nostalgic Where did you spend my St Germain des Pres signed Michel Legrand and Eddy Barclay or this very nice and very funny Paris Jadis de Caussimon, sung with a lot of heart by all the happy team ... A warm record to listen while strolling between the 18th and the 20th district ...! Translate by Google https://www.djangostation.com/Swing-from-Paris,906.html

The trumpet player and the pianist played together on the album Life On Mars by Le Lann and then met on a cruise celebrating the arrival of the first jazz band in France in 1917. The idea of celebrating the DNA of the swing duo then appeared as a challenge as unexpected as obvious. Long before embarking on the bop, to pay homage to Chet Baker or David Boxie, Eric Le Lann , exceptional jazz storyteller began with the New Orleans, inspired by the 78t of the first grand master of the genre discovered in the record collection. his father. Pianist and outstanding composer of the new generation of French jazz, Paul Lay and his encyclopedic taste for the history of jazz piano, led him to study the art of Jelly Roll Morton and Earl Hines leading him straight to Louis Armstrong. The duo met to celebrate with rare elegance the Satchmo repertoire on the album Thanks a Million. In addition to two original titles, the choice of titles has landed on particularly outstanding pieces of Armstrong, not as a composer, which he was to a lesser degree but as an interpreter who would propel these songs in the galaxy of the tubes: What a Wonderful World, Dinah, Mack the Knife, St. James infirmary ... The duo lives, sings, swings, whispers, surprises and proclaims their attachment to Armstrong's precursor universe with sincerity and poetry. The melodic purity of the lines, the rhythmic accuracy of the accents, the harmonic intuition, the sense of listening and complementarity, the duo excels in this exercise yet perilous tribute to Armstrong.
