It is the result of many years of loving the music of this marvellous country. In the context of the Sant Andreu Jazz Band we have performed and recorded more than 50 songs by authors such as Tom Jobim, Djavan, Pixinguinha, Ary Barroso, Joao Gilberto, Chico Buarque, Roberto Menescal, Dorival Caymmi, Dona Ivone Lara...

Voices such as Andrea Motis, Rita Payés, Èlia Bastida, Alba Armengou and Koldo Munné have been inspired by great Brazilian performers and, through them, have managed to have their own voice in interpreting this rich, melodic, harmonic and rhythmic music. Our interpretations always leave room for improvisation, taking advantage of the fact that jazz music is our greatest source of inspiration.

SANT ANDREU ABRAÇA BRAZIL is not only music, it is also a gesture, a way of bridging the gap between both cultures. To give a giant embrace that crosses the ocean.

This is what happened during the Jazzing Festival, where the 25 songs that make up this double CD were recorded live, featuring the voices of Vanessa Moreno and Analu Sampaio, who came from Brazil especially to sing with us, as well as voices from the Sant Andreu Jazz Band such as Andrea Motis, Rita Payés, Èlia Bastida, Alba Armengou, Koldo Munné and Edu Ferrer. We can also enjoy the voices of guests such as Carme Canela, Jurandir dã Silva, Enrique González and Maria Zerpa.

The diversity of the voices that make up this CD make it unique. 25 songs to enjoy listening to Music invites us to dream. Let's close our eyes and cross the Atlantic. Let's let ourselves be carried away by the bossa nova, the samba, the baião, the choro, the frevo.

And we have reached 15 years of existence. Some of the musicians who are part of this new Jazzing were not even born when the project, with more than 60 musicians between the ages of 6 and 21 years old, was started. None of the musicians who were part of the first recording, Jazzing 1 of 2009, is part of the current Sant Andreu Jazz Band (although in this new work, representation of the year 2020, we can find two musicians who were present that year: the Motis sisters, who in this case appear as special guests).

All these years are reflected on the one hand in 21 cd's (11 jazzings, some of them with several volumes) as well as in the 18 Joan Chamorro presents and in Ramon Tort's film A film about kids and music, from 2011.

In the text of Jazzing 1 I spoke of a dream come true. What can I say now, a few years later? That this dream is still alive. That there is still, on my part, if not more, the same illusion as in the beginning. That young people are leaving, but the orchestra remains and continues to be a motivation and a source of learning and inspiration for those who are entering and also for many other musicians who, seeing our work, are motivated and work in the same line as we do.

I can only say thank you, once again, for having the opportunity to live this dream, and to share it with so many people around the world. Thousands of fans know the names of each and every one of the members who are or have been in the orchestra and, once they leave, follow their individual careers. Those followers know our extensive repertoire, they have all our records, they know the different versions of the songs, they know the details, the ins and outs. They are followers of our history, a history that after 15 years has become the history of thousands of people.

The Sant Andreu Jazz Band, a dream come true and based on the fact that what is really important is the present, the path, and not the goal.

I don't know to what extent the number 10 is significant, but it is a round number and reaching this number of Jazzings (CDs of the Sant Andreu Jazz Band) for me is, at least, a great joy.

Jazzing 10, but 18 CDs, actually, since several of them are double or triple, as is the case of this last one, which consists of three volumes.

The first of them (VOL. 1), dedicated to the music of Clifford Brown, with special arrangements for the occasion, of songs that were either originals by Clifford himself or songs that he used to perform.

The other two volumes (VOL. 2 and 3) are also a sample of the different recordings we have made during this 2019, both with the entire Sant Andreu Jazz Band, or in smaller formats, and in two different spaces such as the JAZZ HOUSE (home of the young orchestra) and the JAMBOREE, a regular venue during all these years, where we have also played and recorded on many occasions.

We are celebrating the 13th anniversary of the Sant Andreu Jazz Band, through which around 60 musicians (currently 24) have passed, with this new jazzing, the ninth, in three volumes. Jazzing 9 (vol.3) (Temps Record, 2020).

At the same time we continue with the Joan Chamorro presents series, of which we have just published the 11th by Alba Armengou and the 12th by Carla Motis, and of which we are currently recording for the following ones, by Jan Domenech and Joana Casanova, and we already have others in mind.

I never imagined that we would be here, but here we are, with more enthusiasm than ever, with more happiness than ever, seeing how our way of working, our methodology and our philosophy is admired and required from all parts of the world.

Something as simple as falling in love with music through listening to it, feeling like musicians from the first moment, giving us the opportunity to enjoy from the first day, singing melodies that are inside us and incorporating new ones based on listening to the greats like Johnny Hodges, Duke Ellington, Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Ben Webster, Charlie Parker, and a long etcetera.

Jazz is universal and has no frontiers, no ages, nor is it one for a few. Jazz belongs to everyone, it's popular, and if young people are given the opportunity to get to know it and are told "You can also play and enjoy", the rest will come. To improvise is to create, it is to feel that you can develop your own voice, and nowadays that has an incalculable value, in a society that tends to the unification of ideas and thoughts.

The members of the SAJB are unique individuals, as we all are, and that is important when facing education.Thank you, Nicolás, once again, for teaching me so much in such a short time.

Nine albums within the Joan Chamorro presents collection, starred by some of the young talents that emerged from the Sant Andreu Jazz Band to become up-and-coming stars on their own right: Andrea Motis, Eva Fernandez, Magali Datzira, Rita Payes, Marc Martin, Joan Mar Sauque, Elia Bastida and the projected labeled as La Magia de la Veu ("The magic in the voice").

A great party, yes, that is what the concert at the Palau de la Música was on December 10, 2021 as part of the Barcelona Jazz Festival. This concert is the one you have in your hands, on two CDs, because it was a musically generous concert, where we managed to bring together practically all the musicians who had gone through the project plus those who were part of it at that time.

In total, 64 musicians, plus regular guests: Ignasi Terraza, Josep Traver and Esteve Pi. It was really wonderful to be able to come together and make music again and recreate some of the most popular songs from all these years (plus 3 new songs that we had never recorded before). A jazz party in style, where it was exciting to hear the evolution of many of the musicians I hadn't heard for years. Many of them have their own projects and play an important role in the current jazz scene.

This recording is really very special, both emotionally and musically. In some of the songs we can practically hear two big bands playing at the same time, with two drummers, two bassists, two guitars, 10 saxophones, 6 or 7 trombones, 6 or 7 trumpets, choirs of more than 10 people, etc. It wasn't easy, but we made it possible. Because, as I already said back in 2009, in the first JAZZING: the Sant Andreu Jazz Band is a dream come true. And we are in 2022 (the year in which this 2021 recording appears) and we continue dreaming.

When you work with such young musicians it is very important what you teach, yet it’s even more important what you can convey and how you do it, because this will be what makes them want to do music on their own, in an intense, passionate and exciting way.» ~ Joan Chamorro https://santandreujazzband.bandcamp.com/album/jazzing-7

I listen to Birdsong, lyrics and music by Joana Casanova. I do it as I write these words and I do it really excited and happy, for various reasons. I met Joana Casanova when she was 14 years old, who began to be my sax student. After a couple of years I suggested that she join my Sant Andreu Jazz Band project, knowing that it would be a great motivation for her and that as a vocalist and saxophonist she would enrich the sound of the band, as it has been. Joana is the proof that, with perseverance, with work, with faith and with love, you can achieve what you set out to do. It always seemed to me that Joana had a musicality and potential that, working well, could bear beautiful fruits. Joana is a person with a good heart, sincere, committed to nature, to animals. Her vegan status goes even further than my vegetarian status, and somehow makes me feel sympathy and admiration for her commitment and consistency. All this is reflected in his music, unpretentious, without unnecessary frills, but authentic, and with force, both with his saxophones (the alto in the vein of the classics like Johnny Hodges and the tenor, in the vein of Genne Ammos and Ben Wester) as with his voice, with morea strong personality, impregnated with soul, with a lot of swing, many nuances, inspired by the greats Ella Fitzgerald, Nancy Wilson, Norah Jones, Aretha Franklin, Joni Mitchel ...

We can hear all this in this presentation album, and for several reasons It makes me feel excited and happy:
1- In it we can find several of Joana's companions, from the Sant Andreu Jazz Band, all of them turned into very good jazz musicians.
2- The rhythmic base is completed by three wonderful musicians such as Joan Monné (piano and arranger of most of the songs), David Xirgu (drums) and Josep Traver (guitar).
3- We have, in most of the songs, the presence of one of the most personal trumpeters on the world jazz scene of the moment, Joe Magnarelli, whose musicality flows, how could it be otherwise, in the eclectic repertoire that we can find in this job.
4 -There are also Dick Oatts and Scott Hamilton, honey for the ears.
5- And finally, and beyond all, I think that this new volume (the 13th) of the series "Joan Chamorro presents", is a beautiful, varied album, careful in all its details and that leaves a record of a voice that he envelops us and captures us with his special warmth, just like his saxophones. Because Joana, when she plays, she sings and when she sings, she plays.
Joana is pure melody. My best wishes!! Joan Chamorro
