A LIVE ALBUM that really does FEEL live! Recorded September 11, 2010 at the Mable House Barnes Amphitheater in Mableton, GA. Jazz Standards and more from a jazz combo that understands the art of entertaining.

A metro-Atlanta native, Ms. Taylor grew up singing standards in the school chorus and gospel tunes in the choir. Everything else she sang in the shower . . . . . as loud as possible! No one is really certain how the singing career came about. Kayla just always sang. Period. As an adopted child she had a vivid imagination – that’s still true today. “But as an adoptee – you have a lot of other things to wonder about. I think most adoptees wonder who their birth parents are. In my case, there was no discussion. I decided at a very early age that my birth parents were Bette Midler and Dean Martin!” Of course, no one from either of those families has contacted Kayla to let her know that she is the long lost love child of Bette and Dean. “But”, Kayla adds, “They haven’t contacted me to let me know that I’m NOT either!”

In addition to jazz and standards, Kayla has performed country, gospel, R&B, classic and original rock ‘n’ roll. “I love the jazz and standards from the 1940’s and 1950’s. I always have. So when Steven and I decided to start a jazz combo and perform this music – I was elated.” So was her husband, Scott. “Scott told me for years that he would love to hear me sing the jazz and standards. Whenever we were grocery shopping or doing housework, I would just break out into song and it was always a standard of some sort. He was right – this is the music I was born to sing.”

Vocalist, Kayla Taylor is joined on "Someone to Watch Over Me" by long-time music partner & guitarist, Steve Moore; drummer, Mike Zimmerman; upright Bassist Patrick Cowan; tenor saxophonist  EJ Hughes; and tenor & bariotone saxophonist Will Scruggs.

Taylor & Moore made their way through the 90's in rock bands "A Fine Line" (also with Zimmerman) and "OneWithout" and in an acoustic duo affectionately known as "The Adventures of Kayla & Steve". The team formed a jazz & standards combo 5 years ago and developed a very loyal following at a favorite haunt - "Pacific & Vine". A live album ("A Night at Pacific & Vine")was recorded in the middle of dinner rush on Saturday, November 6, 2004 and is also available for purchase on CDBaby.com.

"We recorded this album at Wolff Bros. Post Studio in Atlanta, GA on January 13 & 14. We loved doing the live album prior to this - but it was so nice to be in the studio. Vocals were recorded live in a sound booth while the musicians were playing in the main room. This gave the tracks a really nice live feel, but we still had control over the environment since we were in a closed studio," says Kayla. Produced by Steve Moore & Kayla Taylor and recorded & engineered by Burt Wolff of Wolff Bros. Post, Atlanta, Georgia - the album was released on Taylor & Moore's label - SMartyKaT Records in July of 2007. http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/kaylataylorjazz2

Though her early forays were more rock and pop, in recent years Atlanta’s Kayla Taylor has, in partnership with guitarist Steve Moore, found her musical focus with jazz standards. There’s a slight, if persistent, twang to Taylor’s voice that reveals her Southern roots. But the effect, like an amalgamation of dewy Sophie Milman with fellow Canadian k.d. lang, is thoroughly enticing pert, yet a wee bit pouty. It serves her well on an opening “Good Morning Heartache,” more gently regretful than maudlin, and is equally effective on a bossa-swung “Just One of Those Things” and a flirty “You’d Be Surprised.”

Moore and his piano-less band drummer-percussionist Michael Dana, bassist Justin Owen-Head and saxophonist Will Scruggs draw on the Flamingos’ classic 1959 version to shape “I Only Have Eyes for You,” with Taylor ably following their shimmering lead. The lesser-known Gershwin gem “Treat Me Rough” is delivered with showgirl sauciness and, kudos to all four players, a shadowy “Devil May Care” finds her dancing among undulating flames. But the closing track, a Moore-led “Blues Stay Away From Me,” seems plucked from an entirely different album. Taylor’s vocal, though powerfully mournful, feels neither down nor dirty enough, particularly when measured against the cut-loose wail of lang’s “Honky Tonk Angels’ Medley” version from 1988’s Shadowland.

Jazz & Standards from the 40's & 50's is the focus of KTJ, who primarily works as a quintet. Vocalist, Kayla Taylor is joined by long-time music partner & guitarist, Steve Moore; drummer, Mike Zimmerman; upright Bassist - Patrick Cowan; and saxophonist - Will Scruggs.

Taylor & Moore made their way through the 90's in rock bands "A Fine Line" (also with Zimmerman) and "OneWithout" and in an acoustic duo affectionately known as "The Adventures of Kayla & Steve". The team formed a jazz & standards combo 3 years ago and developed a very loyal following at a favorite haunt - "Pacific & Vine". The album was recorded in the middle of dinner rush on Saturday, November 6, 2004. "Pacific & Vine" was a great place for us to play. The food was great, the staff was great, the bartenders & servers totally rocked and the people we met there - well, at the rate of sounding 'hokey' - it was just a magical time," says Kayla.

Sadly, a corporate decision led to the closure of Pacific & Vine on April 25, 2005. The fun and good times linger on with Kayla Taylor Jazz's "A Night at Pacific & Vine". The album is truly live and will definately transport you to the venue - bar sounds, audience chatter, orders being placed - and there amidst the clatter - a jazz band plays and sells us a piece of themselves to hold in our hearts.
