Critically acclaimed singer and songwriter Hannah Svensson releases a new album: ""Places and dreams"" which consists of newly composed material by Hannah as well as interpretations by Joni Mitchell and Dave Castle. The music is characterized by strong melodies and the material on the new album is a meeting between jazz and pop harmonies with plenty of room for improvisation. The group's musical influences range from jazz, pop and blues where their own sound goes like a theme through each song. The album as well as live concerts feature four distinguished jazz musicians: Jan Lundgren (Piano) Ewan Svensson (guitar) Matz Nilsson (bass) and Zoltan Czörsz (drums) who together with Hannah form a fantastic group. Hannah Svensson paves her own way and with five albums established herself as one of our most appreciated jazz singers. She is heard in many different combinations and contexts both in Sweden and internationally. I see music as a lifelong journey and with this album I have landed in something new that has always been within me. Some of the songs are written almost ten years ago, they have been lying there, waiting to be picked up at the right time and context. ""Places and dreams"" is a summary of things that have inspired my life. A dream can take me to new places, but a place can also create dreams, whether it is far away on the beach in Malibu, a beautiful day in the Gothenburg archipelago or a Friday afternoon in Copenhagen. A young talented singer has emerged on Sweden’s jazz scene. With a beautiful voice, Hannah Svensson interprets jazz standards as if she hasn’t done anything else in her life. Her new album Each little moment, with Jan Lundgren on piano and Hannah’s father Ewan Svensson on guitar, was released 3 March 2014.

Hannah Svensson was born in 1986. Brought up in a stimulating musical environment, she became interested in music early on. At the age of nineshe started taking piano lessons and learned to play guitar. Her father Ewan Svensson, a famous jazz guitarist, has always been her great source of inspiration. As a teenager Hannah played instruments in various bands with no thoughts of starting to sing. Until she heard Eva Cassidy sing in a TV program and immediately was moved to tears. Her interest in singing took off and she made her first singing performance 18 years old.

By now Hannah has managed to do quite a lot of live performances. And she enjoys being on the stage and behind the microphone – you can tell. With an emotional and natural tone she leads you through a band of pearls from The American Songbook. Together with Jan Lundgren, the producer of the album and pianist on all songs, and her father Ewan Svensson playing the guitar. The other musicians are Morten Ramsbøl, bass and Kristian Leth on drums. Hannah is a very promising jazz singer who surely has a bright career ahead. Lean back and enjoy!

The shade of her idol, the tragic Eva Cassidy hovers in judgement as Svensson performs 10 numbers from the Great American Songbook and one Louis Jordan knockabout. Cassidy made every song she sang her own. Svensson, perhaps in awe of the material, runs through it dutifully and extremely competently. But the numbers stay "on the page," refuse to come alive.

Most likely a question of personality and inability to express it, what Danish novelist Aksel Sandemose called The Law of Jante, an inbuilt psychological inhibition that prevents individual Scandinavians from rocking the collective boat by getting too up close and personal. Even the powerful presence of her father, guitarist Ewan Svensson, in her backing band can't break the spell cast by The Law of Jante. Until, in the penultimate number, "It's Easy To Remember," by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart, she manages somehow to climb from her shell and— perhaps inadvertently—lends meaning to the simple but great lyrics of the chorus. Buoyed up by this, Hannah attacks the Gershwin brothers' "I've Got Rhythm" with something approaching oomph. Sadly, by this time, it's too late. There's just a glimpse of what might have been.
