Her taste in music is rooted in the most prolific and crucial period for pop music and folk-rock, or years of Carole King, Bob Dylan, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Joni Mitchell and also more blues and jazz historian, matured in her later at the scuola di Giorgio Gaslini.

Cristina Sartori was born artistically as well, singing in pubs accompanied by his guitar and singing, with the power and sweetness of his voice, the pieces that for many have represented and continue to represent, the soundtrack of his own existence.

Today, the Paduan singer has to his credit the CD: "Nite in the city", containing works by authors apparently far apart from each other, like Carole King, Duke Ellington, John Lennon and Pino Daniele, but whose listening carries in a magical atmosphere of personal arrangements and sounds through pure to support of renowned musicians as Roby subjects, Valerio Abeni, Stefano Lionello, Enrico Dal Bosco, Maurizio Scomparin, Michele Giacomazzi and Benny Lamonica; and "Illegalove", published in 2010, made along with guitarist Enrico Santacatterina and percussionist Max Tuzza. Some of his songs are also featured on compilations "Ladies" and "Sweeches of memories".

All titles are produced by Velut Luna, cult label in the world of the AUDIOPHILE HiFi, from very rich catalog of prominent artists in the pop, jazz and classical..

Wake-Up! is one of those surprises that jazz lovers live for. The names—four of them on the very well-designed, 1960s Blue Note Records-like cover—aren't top shelf in terms of profile. They might even be completely unfamiliar to the less than fanatical jazz fans. But what a band! What a set!

There's just something that says "lacking pretense" about a set of good old-fashioned organ combo sounds. Grant Green, Larry Young, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Jimmy Smith, Jack McDuff are names familiar for organ group releases, beginning with the format's heyday in the late 50s and early 60'sixties. What drummer Vin Scialla and tenor saxophonist Eric Schugren have put together is a fortified organ trio—that is, drums, sax and Hammond B-3, with Brian Charette at the B-3 here—augmented with an extra sax: Mike DiRubbo on alto.

What the group crafts is less the soulful and bluesy sound of the tradition, to a leaning at a more straight ahead, sometimes edgy, sometimes world music-tinted atmosphere, beginning with alto saxophonist Jackie McLean's knife edge tune, "Appointment in Ghana." Altoist DiRubbo studied with McLean, and he displays a similar bite in his tone on a tune that opens the door to the contrasts between him and tenor man Schugren. DiRubbo gets the first solo, and he sets it on fire. Organist Charette gets his turn, a concise, smooth noodling dance along the keyboard, cool as apple apple in an ice bath. Then Schugren steps out, fluid and loquacious, piling up a bunch of ideas in less than a minute with an approach not unlike the underrated George Coleman, who played briefly but brilliantly with trumpeter Miles Davis in the early 60s.

Inside the ensemble, Vin Scialla, elevates an already top level sound, swinging from subtle to flashy, from ear-catchingly flamboyant to laying down nuanced low profile accents peppered with sudden grab-you-by-the-collar exclamations.

Most of the rest are tunes written by Schugren or Scialla, with one, "New Beginnings," written by saxophonist Steve Nelson included. Schugren and Scialla partnered in penning "TC Blues," featuring the drummer on as lively world music percolation of djembe, riqq and shekere.

"Bluein' Away the Blows" has a guest slot for trumpeter Fabio Morgera. He sits in on "New Beginnings," too, along with trombonist Jeff Fairbanks, building the group up to a vibrant Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers level for a fine blowing session effort, and the closer, "MPB" is a popping percussion fest, with congas player Nano Valerio joining the quartet alongside Scialla, injecting some gorgeous Latin grooves.

A knockout effort. Here's hoping it's a working band with more plans up it collective sleeve. ~by Dan McClenaghan

"In her wide-ranging life, Lauren Hooker has had many accomplishments as a singer, lyricist, composer, arranger, pianist, actress, educator, producer, founder of an arts coalition, and the head of her musical education company, Musical Legends. Much more than a singer or a musician, she has lived the life of an artist, going from one important project to another and uplifting each area of her life with her creativity, wit and sensitivity.

All For You - My Heart and Soul builds on the success of her first two recordings: Right Where I Belong (Musical Legends 2007) and Life Of The Music (Miles High 2011) with an eclectic set of fresh music that, while not confined to one musical genre, is consistently inspired by the influence and chance taking of jazz. The music on All For You is logically programmed with the first four songs being about the joy and importance of love and the next three dealing with being jilted and disappointed by love. Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now" acts as a transition before the final six numbers discuss getting deeper into oneself and one's life.

For Lauren Hooker, All For You - My Heart and Soul is more than just pretty music, it is music with a purpose. It certainly provides listeners with a memorable experience and it is a strong step forward for the creative artist.".

Known by his colleagues as a "singer's singer" and a "musician's musician," Buddy Greco has sold more than one million records. He is well-known for releasing songs from every genre, from jazz to country to pop music. He has performed on stage, on film and on television.

Born Armando Greco in Philadelphia, Buddy Greco began singing and playing the piano at the age of four. He used his talents performing on the radio. By the age of 16 Buddy Greco had more than a decade of musical experience behind him. He was playing in the nightclub Philadelphia's Club 13 when he was spotted by Benny Goodman. Bandleader Benny Goodman was impressed by Buddy Greco's talents and hired him as a pianist, a singer and an arranger. At the age of 16 Buddy Greco was traveling the world with one of the most popular big bands of the '30s, the Benny Goodman Band. He stayed with the band for four years.

At the ripe age of 20 Buddy Greco decided to pursue a solo professional music career. He began singing and performing in nightclubs and concerts. Some of his hit recordings include the popular favorites "Oh Look at Her, Ain't She Pretty," "The Lady Is A Tramp" and "Around the World." During his musical career he has made more than 65 albums including an album of he and the London Symphony Orchestra, in which he conducted and played.

In the '60s Buddy Greco's music career had been very successful. He appeared with the popular '60s rock group the Beatles in a performance for Queen Elizabeth the second. It was also in the '60s when Buddy Greco seriously began a career in film and television. In 1967 he was a regular performer on the TV series Away We Go. This nationwide television program gave Buddy Greco enormous exposure as a talented singer and pianist. He followed this series with a part in the 1969 film, The Girl Who Knew Too Much. His talents have taken him to great heights recording more than 100 hit singles. During the '70s and '80s, Buddy Greco concentrated on recording and performing. His hits included jazz, country and pop music. Audiences are astounded at the many styles of Buddy Greco.

Even after more than four decades of performing, Buddy Greco still remains one of the most widely-known singers of his time. In the early 90s he toured with "The Salute to the Benny Goodman Band." The ensemble performed 72 shows, each garnering a standing ovation. He performed for two years at The Desert Inn Hotel in Las Vegas and in 1996 ended two world tours at Café Royale in London.

With all his musical credits, Buddy Greco is an inductee of the Philadelphia Music Alliance's Walk of Fame and has entries in both the Encyclopedia of Great Musicians and the Encyclopedia of Great Jazz Singers and Musicians. Buddy Greco's musical abilities live on in his more than 60 albums and more than 100 hit singles. He writes and records scores for film and television. ~Biography by Kim Summers

Saxophonist and educator David Liebman is a forward-thinking artist whose advanced improvisational style and association with trumpeter Miles Davis in the '70s combined to make him one of the most influential and successful jazz musicians of his generation. Heavily influenced by John Coltrane, Liebman has moved from tenor saxophone to soprano and flute throughout his career and more often than not played in a progressive, post-bop style that touched on fusion and avant-garde jazz.

Born in Brooklyn in 1946, Liebman studied classical piano and saxophone before focusing on jazz -- a move he attributes to seeing Coltrane perform live in New York on multiple occasions. He continued his private jazz studies with such artists as Joe Allard, Lennie Tristano and Charles Lloyd while earning a degree in American History from New York University. After graduating, he focused solely on a career in music and quickly became an active leader in the vibrant late '60s "loft" scene in New York City.

After a year with the early fusion ensemble Ten Wheel Drive, Liebman was asked to join former-Coltrane drummer Elvin Jones' band and ultimately appeared on several of Jones' albums in the '70s. This brought him to the attention of trumpeter Miles Davis who hired Liebman from 1970 to 1974. During this period, Liebman toured and recorded with Davis appearing on such albums as 1972's classic On the Corner as well as 1974's Dark Magus and Get Up with It.

Liebman eventually left Davis' band and began working on his own music in various ensembles including The Open Sky Trio with pianist Bob Moses, Lookout Farm with pianist Richie Beirach and guitarist John Abercrombie and his own David Liebman Quintet featuring guitarist John Scofield and Japanese trumpeter Terumasa Hino. This was a fertile, explorative period for Liebman that resulted in a handful of stellar albums including 1974's Drum Ode (ECM), 1975's Lookout Farm (ECM), 1977's Forgotten Fantasies (Timeless), 1978's Omerta (Storyville) and 1979's Doin' It Again (Timeless).

In the early '80s, Liebman formed the cooperative ensemble Quest with pianist Richie Beirach, drummer Billy Hart and bassist George Mraz and later bassist Ron McClure. Beginning with group's self-titled 1981 debut for Palo Alto, Quest has continued to release albums throughout Liebman's career. Also during the '80s, Liebman recorded regularly appearing on myriad albums including Elvin Jones' 1982 album Earth Jones (Palo Alto), 1983's Things We Did Last Summer with trumpeter John McNeil (Steeplechase), 1985's Double Edge with pianist Beirach (Storyville) as well as his own albums including 1985's The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner (CMP), 1987's Homage to John Coltrane (OWL/EMI), 1988's Trio + One (OWL/EMI) and 1989's The Blessing of Old Long Sound (Newsound).

It was also during the late '80s that Liebman began splitting his time between playing jazz and teaching jazz. An early clinician at the Jamey Aebersold camps during the '70s, Liebman met such jazz educators as David Baker, Jerry Hearle, Jerry Coker and other early proponents of formal jazz studies. These experiences, as well as seeing firsthand the interest and need for jazz instruction worldwide while on tours in Europe, spurred Liebman to found the International Association of Schools of Jazz (IASJ) in 1989. Throughout the '90s and '00s, Liebman has worked with the IASJ to promote jazz and mentor students. For his work, Liebman has received several awards in the field of jazz education including being named a National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master for 2011.

While retaining a strong focus on jazz education, Liebman remains a vital, creative force on the jazz scene and performs and records regularly. In 2010, he released the big band album Live: As Always and appeared as a featured guest on The Bickel-Marks Group with David Liebman. ~Biography by Matt Collar

These previously unreleased 1961 live performances from Birdland, show Getz bringing his tenor saxophone mastery to new heights in a truly stunning comeback.

It wasn’t only music lovers who crowded Stan Getz’ club performances in New York when he returned to the US in January 1961 after more than two years away in Europe. The young tenor, who had long since extended the already legendary and unorthodox Lester Young line into something of his own, represented an approach that contrasted with the revolutionary turmoil in the jazz of the time. And it was against that background that these unreleased performances were recorded and broadcast live at Birdland during Getz’ quartet engagement in the fall of that year with Steve Kuhn, Jimmy Garrison and Roy Haynes.

It was a quality group and, with Getz then at a sublime peak of emotional and intellectual balance allied to unfailingly melodic inventiveness, the quartet explored a stimulating program of jazz standards and ballads with a gripping blend of strength, delicacy and subtly nuanced dynamics. Suffused with the leader’s eloquent tenor, the sheer beauty of the music often caused a hush to fall over the audience, who must by then have realized that, revolution or not, they were indisputably in the presence of one of the greats.

Stan Getz (tenor sax); Steve Kuhn (piano); Jimmy Garrison (bass); Roy Haynes (drums). Recorded live at Birdland, November 11 and 18 (#5-9), 1961. Note: While you may notice slight imperfections in the sound of these recordings, inherent to the source tapes, they do not subtract at all from the top level performances within.

Machito played a huge role in the history of Latin jazz, for his bands of the 1940s were probably the first to achieve a fusion of powerful Afro-Cuban rhythms and jazz improvisation. At its roaring best, the band had a hard-charging sound, loaded with jostling, hyperactive bongos and congas and razor-edged riffing brass. Machito was the front man, singing, conducting, shaking maracas, while his brother-in-law Mario Bauza was the innovator behind the scenes, getting Machito to hire jazz-oriented arrangers. The son of a cigar manufacturer, Machito became a professional musician in Cuba in his teens before he emigrated to America in 1937 as a vocalist with La Estrella Habanera. He worked with several Latin artists and orchestras in the late '30s, recording with the then-dominant Latin bandleader Xavier Cugat. After an earlier aborted attempt to launch a band with Bauza, Machito founded the Afro-Cubans in 1940, taking on Bauza the following year as music director where he remained for 35 years. After making some early 78s for Decca, the Afro-Cubans really began to catch on after the end of World War II, appearing with -- and no doubt influencing -- Stan Kenton's orchestra (Machito played maracas on Kenton's recordings of "The Peanut Vendor" and "Cuban Carnival") and recording some exciting sides for Mercury and Clef. Upon Bauza's urging, Machito's band featured a galaxy of American jazz soloists on its recordings from 1948 to 1960, including Charlie Parker (heard memorably on "No Noise"), Dizzy Gillespie, Flip Phillips, Howard McGhee, Buddy Rich, Harry "Sweets" Edison, Cannonball Adderley, Herbie Mann, Curtis Fuller and Johnny Griffin. Playing regularly at New York's Palladium, Machito's band reached its peak of popularity during the mambo craze of the 1950s, survived the upheavals of the '60s and despite the loss of Bauza in 1976, continued to work frequently in the '60s, '70s, and early '80s when the term "salsa" came into use. The band recorded for Pablo (in tandem with Gillespie) and Timeless in its later years, and was playing Ronnie Scott's club in London in 1984 when Machito suffered a fatal stroke. A documentary film by Carlo Ortiz, Machito: A Latin Jazz Legacy, was released in 1987. ~bio by Richard S. Ginnell

Joined by several important guests, Cyrus Chestnut proves once again that he is among the brightest, post-bop players of his generation. For this effort, his trio includes legends Ron Carter on bass and Billy Higgins on drums. Joining them are all-stars Lewis Nash (drums on two tracks), James Carter (alto on three tracks), Joe Lovano (tenor sax on two tracks), and two significant appearances by vocalist Anita Baker. This album is very good as well as very solid, with no tracks that clearly stand above the rest. Nash and Baker appear together on the album's only two standards: the slow, sexy "Summertime" and the bright, scat-filled "My Favorite Things." Carter's virtuoso brilliance dominates "Miss Thing" and "The Journey." Lovano contributes his unique intensity to "Any Way You Can" and joins Carter for the impressive two-horned workout "Sharp."

As for the leader, he continues to demonstrate the rare ability to generate soul from the percussive piano. Though his versatility and technical facility is plainly evident, it is this emotional gift which sets him apart. He can play loud and fast; he has developed a lighter, more delicate touch on the ballads; he imparts elements of both blues and gospel in his sound; and he writes his own music. Cyrus Chestnut is recommended the album and the musician. ~ Brian Bartolini  http://www.allmusic.com/album/cyrus-chestnut-mw0000042218

Fawn Fritzen is a singer, songwriter, pianist, and vaudevillian living in Whitehorse, Yukon. Known for her powerful belt and simmering torch songs, she turns to her softer side in her debut album, singing songs of love, loss, and even lust. When the time came to choose a university program, Fawn knew she would not pick music. Good female voices were a dime a dozen, and the music industry is a cutthroat arena. It was years before she realized that her voice was not just another nice voice. Although she developed her powerful belting voice in amateur theatre productions while studying Commerce in Ottawa, it wasn’t until she moved to Whitehorse almost a decade later that she started her professional career as a singer. She joined Whitehorse’s Big Band as pianist in 2007, and her growing love of jazz quickly drove her to find venues to sing in. It didn’t take long for people to sit up and take notice the new singer, and she soon had a busy music schedule as a jazz vocalist, songwriter, and arranger. In 2012, she had the singular opportunity to add “vaudevillian” to her professional resume when she joined the cast of the Frantic Follies, a 44-year-old vaudeville show, as the leading lady. http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/fawnfritzen

This remastered two-fer combines tenor saxophonist Coleman Hawkins' 1963 releases Today and Now and Desafinado. Originally, these LPs were released separately on Impulse. Today is a straight-ahead date with pleasant renditions of the standards "Go Li'l Liza," "Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree," and "Put on Your Old Grey Bonnet." Desafinado is an attempt to match Brazilian rhythms with standards such as "I Remember You," "I'm Looking Over a Four Leaf Clover (Jazz Samba)," and the title track. Both sessions are enjoyable, relaxing, and breezy. While new liner notes are absent, Impulse had the good taste to restore the original packaging: front and back cover art and liner notes. ~ Al Campbell  http://www.allmusic.com/album/today-and-now-desafinado-mw0002164758
