Considering that the Swing lives, guaranteed since 2000 the internationally staffed "Echoes of Swing Orchestra", the flawless in absolutely excellent sound and Arrangement Jazz presents the 1930's and 40. From the German trio "The Swingcats" and the Dutch "Echoes of Swing" a formation that has been the addition of "Orchestra" not only given, but has also earned it honestly in combo strength. The seven top-instrumentalist and singer Shaunette Hildabrand turn the clock back a good 65 years, and take you into the clubs and ballrooms of the great time of the swing in Chicago, Kansas City and Harlem. You have not the men see in Tuxedo and Ms. Hilda fire in elegant long black dress on the cover of the CD "The Fusion" to imagine the dim light and the couple who are closely entwined to "Lady Mystery" by Teddy Wilson, Harry Warrens dancing "This Heart Of Mine" and Thomas "Fats" Waller's "My Fate Is In Your Hands". With closed eyes you can see the "Echoes of Swing Orchestra" in dinner jacket with red carnation and his singer in sparkly dress.

But it also fly their skirts when the ladies on the floor of her dancers to Benny Carter "Everybody Shuffle" the Jitterbug and Swing Chris Hopkins' "Dry County Jump" are peppy rotated. The Americans Hopkins, alto saxophonist of the formation has the arrangements of the album with trumpeter Colin T. Dawson, the tenor saxophonist Frank Roberscheuten and pianist Bernd Lhotzky divided - and two titles himself wrote, including the best of the plate: the "Dry County Jump "and the smartest and funniest for my taste the 15 pieces," Dreamy Mood ". Here namely he Shaunette Hildabrand a jazz coloratura written on the vocal cords, which probably is (and as good) to hear a rarity. In fact, she is a jazz singer of format that maintains coolness with a soft vibrato, smoky lascivious and with this certain touch of. But it is probably her congenial opposite Colin T. Dawson on trumpet, Bernd Lhotzkys sparkling runs and the positive, relaxed attitude of the band involved. Echoes of Swing Orchestra: "The merger" may be recommended. ~ Frank Becker  Translate by google  http://www.omm.de/cds/jazz/echoes-of-swing.html

No modest band name, but critics and audiences agree: Musical perfection meets telepathic understanding! Frank Roberscheuten (B, saxophone) is one of the most profiled European jazz saxophonist. His style is partly based on the jazz giants Coleman Hawkins and Lester Young. His playing reflects a range of influences from New Orleans to bebop. As a soloist he has worked with the "Dutch Swing College Band," the "Barrelhouse Jazz Band" and "Les Haricots Rouges". With his band, the "Swing Cats", he was on all international jazz festivals.

Rossano Sportiello (I, piano), Milan exceptional pianist and heart of the trio, devoted himself after his diploma for concert at the Milan Conservatory jazz styles of the great Stridepianisten Willie "The Lion" Smith and Fats Waller. "Rossano makes me smile When he plays. He is the best stride pianist in the world! "Said jazz legend Barry Harris. Rossano, winner of the Ascona Jazz Awards 2009, played with Gerry Mulligan and Slide Hampton. Martin Breinschmid (A, drums) has for a classical education at the Vienna Music University found his calling in traditional jazz. His role models include the legendary Gene Krupa and Papa Jo Jones. He leads his own quartet since 1994, the "Radio Kings", and has worked among others with Bob Wilbur, Peanuts Hucko and Dave Brubeck. This tribute to Duke Ellington has a truly international cast, with a septet co-led by Dutch saxophonist Frank Roberscheuten and American trombonist/cornetist Dan Barrett; it also includes baritone saxophonist Joep Peeters and drummer Onno de Bruijn (from the Netherlands), bassist Karel Algoed (Belgium), as well as two Americans now making their living overseas, pianist Chris Hopkins (Germany) and cornetist, trombonist, and saxophonist Tom Baker (Australia). Although many CDs honoring the legendary bandleader and prolific composer tend to concentrate exclusively on the hits or just one small era, this group covers songs from the 1920s through the 1950s, covering some obvious crowd pleasers as well as forgotten or overlooked gems. "Take the 'A' Train" opens with a pleasant waltzing introduction, with Hopkins capturing the flavor (without slavishly copying) Ellington's style; Barrett handles Ray Nance's famous 1941 cornet solo with aplomb. Roberscheuten's transcription of "Subtle Slough" (later known as "Just Squeeze Me") from a Rex Stewart-led small group session has a fine muted cornet solo by Baker.

Hopkins tackles "The Mooche" as a piano solo and duets with Algoed on "Pitter Panther Patter," recreating Ellington's famous duet with Jimmy Blanton at a slightly slower tempo. Barrett switches from slide trombone to valve trombone for "Moonlight Fiesta," a Latin number accented by de Bruijn's maracas. "Happy Reunion" was a ballad feature for tenor saxophonist Paul Gonsalves, which made its public debut at the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival but never really caught on; Roberscheuten's rich tenor captures its essence with some lush accompaniment by Hopkins and the rhythm section. The finale is a brisk "C Jam Blues," featuring a chorus by each musician as well as comic introductions of each of the soloists by Peeters. Swing fans will want to pick up this fun-filled CD.

Marty Grosz recordings are always fun. Grosz, a top humorist (though his monologues have yet to be fully included on recordings), is a cheerful vocalist whose style is influenced by Fats Waller, and a superior acoustic chordal guitarist. His combos are superb examples of small group swing with an emphasis on songs from the 1920s and '30s. For this date recorded in Germany, Grosz leads his Hot Puppies, a quintet with fellow American Randy Reinhart on trumpet and three excellent German players.

Frank Roberscheuten shows his versatility by playing clarinet (his best ax), tenor, and alto while bassist Nico Gastreich and drummer Moritz Gastreich are swinging and subtle in support. The repertoire is inspired and some of the frameworks (including a version of "Heartaches" that hints strongly at Ted Weems' hit recording) are inventive. Reinhart and Grosz are the solo stars and this set is easily recommended to fans of vintage swing and classic jazz. ~ Scott Yanow    http://www.allmusic.com/album/rhythm-is-our-business-mw0000693801

This is the beauty of Jazz. As if from a dream, a multinational collection of musicians gather on the neutral ground of an international convention and are asked, on short notice to prepare and play a program. This particular group of musicians was to first meet on the bandstand. During a 15 minute Götterdammerung, they decide on a program and arrangements and then proceed to swing like they have known each other forever. This is exactly what took place at the International Association of Jazz Record Collectors convention held in Hamburg Germany in 1999. Reedists Engelbert Wrobel, Frank Roberscheuten, and pianist Chris Hopkins joined ranks to lead a band is a sometimes suprising collection of mainstream jazz standards presented in a mainstream manner. What is so stunning about this collection is the seamless telepathy with which these musicians, strangers to one another except by reputation, mix into a perfect solution of sound and swing. Martin Williams queried once that the big nonjazz listener question was, "Where is the melody". In this jazz, lake many other performances, the melody is presented up front in the head and then each musician, in a time honored manner, steps up to say what he or she has to say about that melody by offering their own melodies. This modus operandi worked all too well on this night, much to the satisfaction of those who will purchase this performance.~ C.Michael Bailey   http://www.allaboutjazz.com/php/article.php?id=8354#.UzHAD4UqPro

Antti Sarpila, Frank Roberscheuten, Engelbert Wrobel

Inspired by their shared love of and enthusiasm for the swing - jazz and from pleasure and joy of making music together in this tradition , three of the most renowned saxophonist and clarinetist of the European jazz scene have joined forces : Antti Sarpila from Finland, the Netherlands Frank Roberscheuten and Engelbert Wrobel from Germany . With plenty of power and drive , they allow taking a look back at the big time of swing and inspire their audiences with skillful arrangements , mainly from his own pen , and exciting improvisations. All three soloists and stand for years before his own formations .

With a wink, taking the headline reference to the famous " three tenors " from the Opera area. "The 3 Tenors of Swing " but might as well "The 3 Clarinets " or "The 3 Altos Of Swing " hot , or they would have to imagine as "The 3 Reed Men Of Swing" , because these three protagonists are all multi-instrumentalists - everyone plays both tenor and another saxophone, and clarinet - and each of these instruments masterfully.
The sound on the CD is wonderful, the musicians delightfully inspired, and the repertoire varied. I was listening to it for the first time this afternoon, and when the disc was about halfway through, I stopped it, and said to myself, “I have to write about this right now. It is so good.” It features Antti Sarpilla, Frank Roberscheuten, and Engelbert on reeds, with a rhythm section of Rolf Marx, guitar; Chris Hopkins, piano; Henning Gailing, string bass; Oliver Mewes, drums.
