Listing all of Marc Jordan’s songwriting credits, awards and accolades would take up the whole word count of this review, so let me simply say that the man knows his way around a song. And since this album is mostly covers only two of the tracks are originals his mighty interpretative skills are a key component here. The other key component of Both Sides is Lou Pomanti, who produced, arranged and orchestrated all the tracks. These two men are at the top of their games and we are the beneficiaries. The album is rich with instrumentation courtesy of the Prague Symphony Orchestra and guest appearances by international heavies like Randy Brecker and Tommy Emmanuel, and local luminaries like Kevin Breit and Larnell Lewis. Although he covers a couple of standards from the Great American Songbook, it’s the reinterpretations of classic folk/rock songs that are standouts for me. In particular, Lou Reed’s Walk on the Wild Side shines with its many layers and gorgeous woodwinds, courtesy of Toronto’s own, John Johnson. Although the soft, groovy treatment of the tune is antithetical to its subject matter, it works. Beautifully. Jordan’s thoughtful handling of the title tune also caused me to hear these familiar lyrics with fresh ears and I was struck by how mature Joni Mitchell’s writing was for one so young. (She was in her early 20s when she wrote Both Sides Now.) Overall, the album reflects a full-grown artist who has lived completely, and well. ~ Cathy Riches https://www.thewholenote.com/index.php/booksrecords2/jazzaimprovised/29043-both-sides-marc-jordan

What is the nature of creativity? Is creativity an attribute, or is it a state of being? What ist the impetus for creative risk and exploration? Is it a problem solving or aesthetic expression?  And can a hindrance eventually become the unique signature of one’s creativity? Perhaps being forced to express oneself in a certain way rather than choosing to do so is, in the end, the thing that metamorphoses creativity into artistry. Vivid Sound has announced to reissue one of the hardest-to-get album of Marc Jordan, "Live At El Mocambo" alternatively known as "Secrets Live" here in Japan on February 20, 2008 as one of the Ligh Mellow's Choice series supervised by Toshikazu Kanazawa. This album was originally released in 1981 on RCA/RVC Records, Canada and Japan. And in 1992, the album was once re-released on CD in France by La Califusa Records. Recorded live April 11, 1980 at El Mocambo, Tronto Canada, the album was produced by Keith Whiting and Marc. 5 tracks out of 9 were unreleased materials, and 4 tracks; "I'm A Camera", "Survival", "Lost In The Hurrah" and "From Nowhere To This Town" were from Marc's first two solo albums "Mannequin" (1978) and "Blue Desert" (1979). Only those well-known 4 tunes were included later on Marc's another live album entitled "Live- Now & Then" in 1997. Therefore, many Marc's fan are eager to have a chance to listen to 5 unreleased materials only on this live album. Finally, remastered reissued CD will be available and you should also note that the new version will include a bonus live tracks at El Mocambo. The tune is "Tattooed Lady" from the album "Blue Desert"! Thus, even if you were lucky enough to have the original LP and/or French reissued CD, you cannot help getting the new reissued CD! https://aorclub.blogs.com/acmj/2008/01/marc-jordan-liv.html
