Ian Mcdougall(trombonist,. arranger, composer) was born on June 14, 1938 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and grew up in Victoria, British Columbia where he began his 'professional' career at the age of 12 when he joined the Victoria Local (247) of the American Federation of Musicians, the youngest person ever to join that local. He is perhaps best known for his work as lead trombonist with Rob McConnell’s Grammy and JUNO Award-winning ‘The Boss Brass’ for 20 years, during which time two suites composed by McDougall ‘The Pellet Suite’ and ‘The Blue Serge Suit(e)’ were recorded and released by the band. He was also lead trombonist and composer/arranger for JUNO Award-winning ‘The Brass Connection’. McDougall left Victoria in 1960 to tour in Great Britain with The John Dankworth Band. Returning to Vancouver two years later, he immediately became a key part of the vibrant music scene there, playing for three years with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, working on numerous CBC Radio and Television shows, playing regularly on the bandstand at The Cave nightclub, and performing with the biggest visiting acts of the day including Lena Horne, Tony Bennett, Ella Fitzgerald, The Supremes, Nat ‘King’ Cole, and Rosemary Clooney. It was during this same period in the ‘60s that he obtained his Bachelor and Master of Music Degrees from the University of British Columbia. He moved to Toronto in 1973, and was soon invited by Rob McConnell to join the Boss Brass where McDougall would find his musical ‘home’ for nearly two decades until 1991 when he returned to Victoria to continue his career on Canada’s West Coast. Since the early 1980s, McDougall has become even more involved in composition, and his works have been performed by the CBC Vancouver Orchestra, the Lafayette String Quartet, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Rob McConnell Tentet, the Toronto Cantata Chorus, and others. In recent years, he has toured Canada and abroad, both as a soloist and with his groups, appearing in Ireland, Scotland, Australia, Denmark, Holland, the United States, Germany, and England, where McDougall served as Music Director for two BBC Big Band broadcasts. He has been featured as leader on six CDs, several of them nominated for awards. Ian McDougall continues to play, compose, and teach in Victoria, British Columbia. He was on the jazz faculty at the University of Victoria until 2003 when he retired as Professor Emeritus. He has served as both a performer and clinician at three International Trombone Association conventions (in Nashville, Rochester, and Las Vegas), and frequently elsewhere throughout North America. http://www.canadianjazzarchive.org/en/musicians/ian-mcdougall.html

Greta Panettieri - Non Gioco Più

On June 22nd "Non Gioco Più" (Italian 60's in Jazz) is released, the new album by singer and composer Greta Panettieri, talent already established in New York and now in Italy to present this latest work that reinterprets the great successes of the 60s interpreted by Mina, turning them into jazz with his voice: a real eclectic and sophisticated "tool". The atmospheres of the songs (from "Brava" to "Conversazione", to "Se telefonando") thus hold two suggestions: that of the world of jazz, nocturnal and smoky, with its leaks forward and virtuous improvisations, and that of the song Italian author in the '60s and' 70s that brings the listener back in time when the television show of the variety proposed a cultivated lightness as well as new social models. Great special guest, the trumpet of Fabrizio Bosso, one of the best Italian musicians who on this record fuses his great charisma and his versatility with the volcanic personality and glamor of Greta Panettieri. In the ensemble, saxophonists Gaetano Partipilo and Alfonso Deidda join pianist Andrea Sammartino, double bass player Giuseppe Bassi and drummer Armando Sciommeri. A champion formation that together with Greta Panettieri offers a unique pearl in the Italian record landscape. The release date will be celebrated on June 21 with the official presentation concert at the Velvet in Perugia that will kick off the tour in Italy (the first dates: June 21 PERUGIA, July 6 - Montecarotto (ANCONA), July 26 - Castro (LECCE ), 10 August - Pietralcina (BENEVENTO)) and in Brazil (from 4 to 12 October).

In his live shows in New York, where he has lived since 2000, Greta Panettieri has always traveled from traditional jazz contexts to more experimental ones, passing through Latin, Brazilian, Soul and Funk. "I no longer play" comes after two previous works: "The Edge of Everything" (for Decca / UMG), "Brazilian Nights Live at ZincBar" (result of a New York collaboration with the legendary Brazilian pianist Cidinho Teixeira, bassist Itaiguara Brandao, drummer Mauricio Zottareli and saxophonist Rodrigo Ursaia). A further album "Under Control", has been distributed worldwide on all digital platforms since the end of 2013 and will be released physically in Italy in autumn 2014 as an annex to a Graphic Novel inspired by the adventurous life of Greta. In these years, after the US contracts with Universal and DECCA, a European tour arrived for Greta, opening the concerts of Joe Jackson, and collaborations with Curtis King, Diane Warren, Poogie Bell, Sandro Albert, Terri Lynn Carrington , Mitch Forman, Robert Irvin III, Paolo Braga, Toninho Horta, Arthur Maia, Darryl Tooks. A great talent, with an extraordinary vocality and an absolute interpretative ability, which in Italy has not escaped Gegè Telesforo: he chooses Greta as co-author for many of the tracks of his latest album "Nu Joy" published by Columbia Records / Sony music and he calls her with him on stage throughout the Nu Joy Band tour.

She writes about her Carry Lynn Terrington:
"Greta has a special gift, is able to turn any melody into a personal affirmation, is able to attract the listener to let him hear his message that speaks his language or not. He interprets the melodies as a great musician and not only as a singer, adding his style and his light at the right time, making the melody his own but without affecting the original intention ... Greta is one of the best singers I've ever heard and that's why that we need her to do everything her heart and soul dictate to her, I'm sure she will make a great contribution to the music industry and the world at large ... Formally trained in bass, composition and arranging, Don Bagley made his early reputation touring and recording with Stan Kenton from 1950-1953. He subsequently would work with Kenton again at different times, but in 1954 Bagley began heading his own bands. He was quite busy as a session musician as well; Bagley recorded in Los Angeles with Nat "King" Cole, Maynard Ferguson and Dexter Gordon from 1950-52, then did overseas dates with Zoot Sims, Lars Gullin and a sextet led by Frank Rosolino and Ake Persson in Paris and Sweden in 1953. Bagley worked extensively with Kenton again and with Les Brown between 1956 and 1967, but still found the time to record in 1957 and 1958 with bands whose rosters included at times Jimmie Rowles, Shelly Manne and Phil Woods. There were also engagements with Pete Fountain in 1959 and Ben Webster in 1961. The lucrative world of television and films beckoned, with Bagley doing many arrangements and compositions in the '70s and '80s, plus working from 1976-1984 for noted pop songwriter Burt Bacharach. ~ Ron Wynn https://www.allmusic.com/artist/don-bagley-mn0000794713/biography

Group formed in November 1995, based on the initiative of Alexis Cuadrado and Guim Garcia double bass and alto sax, respectively, with the common goal of researching, sharing and developing their own concepts in the language of improvisation, leaving the way Free of any idea or attractive influence to its members, without any stylistic limit imposing its excess weight. The idea of forming Alguimia therefore arises spontaneously, without any initial approach or prejudice, and this is how its members want it to be the music they play in this group.  The wide experience of each of the components of Alguimia in the field of Jazz makes the sound of the group an attractive combination of elements that range from spontaneity and the risk to maturity, never neglecting the freshness and energy on the stage. The group's repertoire is based on original compositions by two of its members, -Guim García and Alexis Cuadrado, thus introducing a totally original view of Jazz in the music scene of our time. With an enthusiastic audience and critique, Alguimia has played in the most important clubs in Barcelona and the surrounding areas: Jamboree, Blue Note, BCN Pipa Club, Nova Jazz Cava de Terrassa, etc. He has also participated in numerous festivals such as Altaveu Frontera '96, Ciutat Vella Jazz Festival '96, L'hora del Jazz '96, Barcelona OFF Festival '96. The recording of his first record job is about to see the light and he will do it live next April in the Jamboree room in Barcelona. Translate By Google https://www.jazzterrassa.org/es/node/10099
