Vocalist Jane Morgan is known best for her lone Top Ten hit, "Fascination," drawn from the 1957 Billy Wilder film Love in the Afternoon. Born in Boston (as Jane Currier) but raised in Florida, Morgan was an early success as a singer in France. She made the transition back to America as a nightclub act, and signed to Kapp in the mid '50s.  Jane Morgan made her chart debut late in 1956, appearing alongside Roger Williams on "Two Different Worlds." One year later she hit number seven with her theme "Fascination," based on the old French composition "Valse Tzigane." Both "The Day the Rains Came" and "With Open Arms" followed "Fascination" into the Top 40 during the late '50s, but Morgan had disappeared from the charts by the turn of the decade. (Her last hit was also a movie theme, for 1959's Happy Anniversary, directed by David Miller and featuring David Niven.) She continued recording for Kapp until 1962, and resurfaced four years later on Epic for Fresh Flavor, a rock-crossover LP that was only slightly embarrassing (her cover of "Good Lovin'" is a minor moment of kitsch). ~ John Bush https://www.allmusic.com/artist/jane-morgan-mn0000181618/biography

Morgan was born Florence Catherine Currier in Newton, Massachusetts on May 3, 1924, one of five children born to musicians Olga (Brandenburg) and Bertram Currier. When she was four years old, the Currier family moved to Daytona Beach, Florida. At five she began vocal lessons while continuing piano lessons. During the summers, she took on child roles and appeared in theater productions at the Kennebunkport Playhouse in Kennebunkport, Maine, which her brother had founded. In 1941, she was listed as the Treasurer of the Kennebunkport Playhouse. While attending grade school, Morgan actively engaged in singing and competing against other students throughout Florida and the Southeast. After graduating from Seabreeze High School, she and her multiple musical talents were promptly accepted into New York's prestigious Juilliard School of Music. Intending to become an opera singer, she studied opera by day and performed whenever possible.

Morgan sang popular songs in nightclubs and small restaurants, and at bar mitzvahs and other private parties, to help pay her tuition expenses at Juilliard. Eventually she was hired as a singer at the Roseland Ballroom in Manhattan with the house second band for $25 a week, six nights a week. While she was still at Juilliard (1944), orchestra leader Art Mooney heard her perform and hired her. Mooney changed her name to Jane Morgan by taking the first name of one of his vocalists, Janie Ford, and the last name of another, Marian Morgan

Jane Currier, 25 December 1920, Boston, Massachusetts, USA. A popular singer with a clear, strong voice and an ability to sing in several languages, Morgan was accepted in many parts of the world during the 50s and 60s. Raised in Florida, she trained as a lyric soprano at the Juilliard School of Music in New York, supplementing her income by singing in night-clubs. At one of them, she was spotted by the French impresario Bernard Hilda, who offered her a contract to sing in Paris. Within weeks of arriving in France she became a major attraction and, during the next few years became established throughout Europe. On her return to the USA, she was billed as ‘The American Girl From Paris’, and appeared successfully on television and in night-clubs. Signed for Kapp Records, she had a minor hit in 1956 with ‘Two Different Worlds’, one of the several tracks she recorded with pianist Roger Williams. The following year she had a million seller with ‘Fascination’, adapted from the old French number ‘Valse Tzigane’, with an English lyric by Dick Manning, which became the theme for the Cary Grant-Audrey Hepburn movie Love In The Afternoon. Despite the rock ‘n’ roll revolution, she continued to be successful, especially in Europe, and in 1958, she had a UK number 1 with Gilbert Bécaud and Carl Sigman’s ‘The Day The Rains Came’. Her French version of the song was on the b-side. Among her other hits in the early 60s, were ‘If Only I Could Live My Life Again’, ‘With Open Arms’ and ‘Romantica’, and her 1957 album, Fascination, made the US Top 20. Morgan’s husband, Jerry Weintraub, was instrumental in Elvis Presley’s re-emergence in the early 70s, and managed several top US singers such as John Denver.
