Lisa Bassenge is back with a bouquet of flowers. "Wildflowers" completes her trilogy of trio albums, again with Jacob Karlzon on piano and Andreas Lang on bass - same as on her two previous albums.

“Wildflowers” covers a range of songs that stretches from Dolly Parton to Depeche Mode, from Bob Dylan to Death Cab for Cutie. The way the trio arranges and performs them, these individual pieces don't seem to be thrown together, but rather like chapters of a story. Each one shimmers on its own, but the ensemble is more than the sum of its parts.

Jacob Karlzon from Sweden and Andreas Lang from Denmark embed Lisa Bassenge's unique voice in a warm sound that is ‘Scandinavian’ in the best sense of the word: relaxed but always engaging; playful, dynamic, full of subtle energy. "This sound has found us", says Lisa Bassenge.

Lisa Bassenge has called her new album "Mothers". It is a tribute to the mothers of popular music. To women who have created something unique in a creative process. "Both now and in the past, there are so many great works by women," says Bassenge. "It was important to me to emphasize that with my album and to shine the light on all these strong women."

At first glance, the composers Bassenge has chosen could hardly be more different - from hippie icon Joni Mitchell to Eurythmics singer Annie Lennox and pop phenomenon Billie Eilish. And yet they have much in common. "Many songs tell of a moment of self-empowerment for these women - and the success that followed. That's something that touched me very much, because women often don't have the confidence to do such things and think they need encouragement from outside," explains Bassenge. "When I started singing as a teenager, I also often heard 'women can't make music'. In general, we have made a lot of progress in recent years, but we still have a long way to go before women get the recognition they deserve."

Lisa Bassenge not only covers the twelve pieces, she makes them her own - with her changeable, soulful voice and the gentle jazz instrumentation. As on her previous album "Borrowed and Blue" she recorded "Mothers" with swedish pianist Jacob Karlzon and danish bass player Andreas Lang. https://herzogrecords.bandcamp.com/album/mothers

“Singer Lisa Bassenge entered the jazz scene at the beginning of the 2000s and yet made it unmistakably clear that the jazz concept is too narrow for her. The Berlin artist placed herself as a pop song interpreter, Hildegard Knef adept and Club Icon with the project Micatone. In passing, she occupied a new, exciting musical field and let jazz turn somersaults with new ideas. And she did all this with her very own interpretative strength, which was to become her trademark. Their subsequent albums in German even made it into the pop charts. The media was upside down.  Now there is no peace, but after a trip to producer legend Larry Klein, Lisa Bassenge has now created a new musical environment for herself. Her international trio, consisting of Swedish pianist Jacob Karlzon and Danish bassist Andreas Lang, dig deep into the world of songs. With classics like'Still crazy after all these years', 'Norwegian Wood', soul tunes like 'I feel like breaking up somebody's home', Waren Zevon's 'Keep me in your heart' or the bluesy 'Ramblin' man' the new repertoire is well presented.” https://www.propermusic.com/product-details/Borrowed-and-Blue-259931

Performer [With] – Akiko, Alice Riccardi, Daniele Scannapieco, Fabrizio Bosso, Flavio Boltro, Gaetano Partipilo, Gianluca Petrella, José James, Kim Sanders, Lisa Bassenge, Lorenzo Tucci, Mark Murphy, Pietro Ciancaglini, Pietro Lussu, Rosario Giuliani, Teppo Mäkinen, Till Brönner, Timo Lassy.

This set has been a long time coming. Italian composer, arranger, multi-instrumentalist, DJ, and label impresario Nicola Conte has been issuing tracks on compilations, on 7", 10", and 12" vinyl for over a decade as mixes, side projects, and reworks. (The latter means that he actually uses his own band to reconceptualize and rearrange an original artist’s recording, more often than not with said artist’s participation.) Most of these cuts came and went, and have been out of print for some time. This killer double-disc set collects virtually all of them in a single spot -- 26 tracks' worth on his Schema imprint. The range of artists is staggering, from Mark Murphy, Til Brönner, Jose James, and Marco Di Marco to Fertile Ground, the Five Corners Quintet, Maki Mannami, and Roberto Roena.

Highlights on disc one include Mark Murphy’s “Stolen Moments (Midnight Mood Rework)”; his own Latin-ized cover of Henry Mancini’s and Johnny Mercer’s “Charade,” with Lisa Bassenge on vocals, and the killer reconstruction of [re:jazz]’s “Quiet Nights” subtitled “Out of the Cool Version,” after the Gil Evans session on Impulse! that inspired it. But tracks like the Jack Lawrence and Arthur Altman standard “All or Nothing at All,” by Conte's group with Jose James on vocals, are stellar examples of his ability to chart for large ensembles and make them rhythmically compelling and harmonically adventuresome, yet contain utterly smooth textures. Disc two contains the gorgeous reworking of Til Brönner’s version of Antonio Carlos Jobim’s and Vinicius de Moraes’ “Só Danço Samba,” that retains Brönner’s vocal and trumpet solo, but conceives everything else -- Conte’s guitar work on this track is stellar. The 12” of the Sunaga T Experience’s “A Healing Blue (Shape of Jazz to Come Version)” features Sheila Landis adding lyrics to the composition and fronting the Italian quintet. Also check the Afro-Cuban rework of Dave Brubeck’s classic “Take Five!” by Roberto Roena.

Ultimately, it doesn’t matter if you know anything about Conte’s side project work, or his singles there are plenty of them here -- if you dig the man’s music, you’ll flip for The Modern Sounds of Nicola Conte: Versions in Jazz-Dub. It is a seamless, utterly engaging collection of 21st century clubjazz rooted in the traditions of bossa, West Coast, progressive big band, continental, and post-bop jazz, as well as 21st century electronic music that has something on it for everyone. Der Annie Lenox-Hit "There Must Be An Angel" hingegen fliegt vor Leichtigkeit davon: warm, sonnig, poppig und ungeheuer Charmant.

After his furious debut album Going Home Berlin Piano Trio puts the singer Lisa Bassenge here his second album before. The title A Sigh, A song could be in completely programmatically meant: between a sigh and a song need not necessarily lie worlds. At least that leads the ninth track, the only original composition of the album, before ears.It shows the band, as it dominates the reduction to the essentials and gets by with very little means to let a song go under the skin atmospherically. In a nutshell, two piano chords, a sensitively-sufficient mysterious bass. They conjure up that mood that can make just by a love sigh air. Of course there is not least the voice of the singer. For some ballads you may still need the large, even lived suffering; but not the passion. Lisa Bassenges singing is clear, supple and experiment. Already on their debut album, they had transformed Madonna's "Like A Virgin" in a delicate, wonderfully complex ballad. Now she has made with her companions except jazz standards more pop Title to deconstruct them. The trio is far from easy to covers songs; Jazz standards, it lights up from scratch, pop songs translated it into the jazz idiom. This produces creations that are sometimes even surpass the original. Rio Reiser "Junimond" Tom Waits '"Ol' 55" or "Shake The Disease" by Depeche Mode are imaginative, sensitive adaptations, but also discover the breaking points. For example, the Lisa Bassenge Trio dispensed with "Shake The Disease" in the well-kept British boredom that blew the arrangements of '80s cult band. The song does well, the trio well. It maintains its own attitude to life, and that has nothing to do with cerebral jazz. ~ Roman Rhode

Tuesday she enthused Harald Schmidt: Lisa Bassenges Pop-jazz mix is ??ripe for a breakthrough... It is fitting that the first major television appearance of Bassenge Trio last Tuesday went at late night mockers of Sat1 across the stage. Because the transgressing character of music of Lisa Bassenge, pianist Andreas Schmidt and bassist Paul Kleber does not belong in the category of ghetto culture magazines. The Berlin reconcile with songs that everyone knows, interpret with improvisation. As the ancestors of the genre you are looking for the Jazz to Pop. The Bassenge Trio breathes classics by Elvis Presley, Tom Waits or Depeche Mode new life - and open up new world of hearing: so fragile and intimate as in the version of Bassenge Trio Madonna's hit "Like A Virgin" has never sounded ... ~ Handelsblatt, 06.12.2002  Translate by google  http://www.amazon.de/Sigh-Song-Lisa-Bassenge-Trio/dp/B00006ALD7

Lisa Bassenge is a 30 years old versatile singer. The Lisa Bassenge Trio is the “band” used to release jazz songs where you can also hear Paul Kleber on upright bass. In 2004 they recorded their third critically acclaimed album “three”. Lisa is also singing with the german bands “Micatone” and “Nylon”. Paul Kleber plays bass, percussion; he studied classical and jazz doublebass but he likes playing jazz much more. Besides the Lisa Bassenge Trio he also recorded two CDs with Nylon and two with Jazz Indeed. During Micatone shows you can see him also playing triangle and drums on a second drum set together with Tim Kroker (another member of the Micatone project). The Lisa Bassenge Trio has build himself a solid reputation in Berlin’s clubs, thanks to a “playlist” that takes inspiration from the biggest names in jazz and pop, filtering them through the really unique and emotional voice of Lisa and the musical taste of her collaborators.
