'London Date' is a live recording of a quartet featuring the incredible US jazz saxophonist Harry Allen recorded at the Watermill Jazz Club with Italian pianist Andrea Pozza, gifted bassist Simon Woolf and ever popular drummer Steve Brown. Fans of the long lineage of the saxophone greats will not be disappointed. Harry Allen can be instantly lined up as a disciple of the late Stan Getz, but he has absorbed far more of the jazz saxophone tradition with elements of Hawkins, Webster, Zoot and Al, and elements from one of his teachers Scott Hamilton. However, Harry Allen's voice is very much his own and as fresh as any on the contemporary scene. With a formidable technique and searing sound Harry Allen continues the tradition of the great saxophonists before him. The material on the CD is a straight blowing set of jazz standards, a couple of great originals penned by Harry Allen and Judy Carmichael and the theme to Star Trek based on the standard "Out of Nowhere". https://www.amazon.co.uk/London-Date-Harry-Allen-Quartet/dp/B01BL3214W

Andrea Pozza is considered "true jazzman:" eclectic pianist capable of handling with great ease any repertoire, he has been active on the national and international jazz scene for nearly 30 years and is recognized by critics and audiences as one of the most representative figures in jazz. Andrea Pozza is a complete artist as well as a valuable partner for great musicians. Thanks to these qualities he plays both as a sideman and frontman and is one of the most respected jazz pianists in Italy and abroad.

Pozza’s career started more than thirty years ago and has led him to perform at an early age (he made his debut only 13) with superstars such as Harry "Sweet" Edison, Bobby Durham, Chet Baker, Al Grey, Scott Hamilton, George Coleman, Charlie Mariano, Lee Konitz, Massimo Urbani, Luciano Milanese. Pozza has been part of the Enrico Rava Quintet (with Roberto Gatto, Rosario Bonaccorso and Gianluca Petrella) from 2004 to 2008 with whom he recorded "The Words And The Days" (released in 2007).

His intense concert activity, in addition to his solo career, sees him present in different formations including Rosario Bonaccorso Quartet and New York Connection co-directed with Emanuele Cisi. In addition, Pozza collaborates with Fabrizio Bosso, Tullio DePiscopo, Dado Moroni, Ferenc Nemeth, Bob Sheppard. He also played with Sal Nistico, Steve Grossman and Gianni Basso, with whom he has worked steadily for more than 25 years and recorded several CDs.

In 2011 the piano jazzman released "Gull's Flight" (Abeat rec, 2011) with the Andrea Pozza European Quintet, involving Christian Brewer on alto sax, Shane Forbes on drums, Dick DeGraaf on tenor and soprano sax and Jos Machtel on upright bass. In 2013 Andrea Pozza recorded "A Jellyfish from the Bosphorus" (Abeat Rec.,2013) the last one in trio with Aldo Zunino on upright bass and Shane Forbes on drums. His most recent albums are "I Could Write a Book" and "Who cares?" (Fonè Jazz, 2014) with Scott Hamilton, one of the most important sax in the world.

Among the other record projects, Andrea Pozza loves to remember: “Plays Ellington, Monk and Himself” (GoFour, 2005); “Sweet Lorraine” (Venus, 2005); “Love Walked In” (33Records, 2007); “Drop This Thing” (2007), "New Quiet" (2010) e “Blu Daniel” (2011) with Aldo Zunino (bass) and Shane Forbes (drums) by Dejavu Records. And two others cds recorded with Enrico Rava, “Andrea Pozza meets Gianni Basso feat. Enrico Rava – Making ’whoopee” (Philology, 2003) and "The Words And The Days" with Enrico Rava Quintet (ECM, 2005).http://www.jazzmusicarchives.com/artist/andrea-pozza

The New York-born daughter of an American father and an Italian mother, Rossana Casale has grown into one of Italy's most adventurous musicians. Her songs have been featured in such Italian films as the Pupi Avati-directed movie Una Gita Scolastica, while she toured with Teatro dell'Opera Raffaele Paganini in the musical comedy An American in Paris. She recorded an Italian version of "Someday, My Prince Will Come" for the restored edition of Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Moving to Italy as a youngster, Casale temporarily lived in Venice before settling in Milan. A background singer for Italian group Albero Motore, in 1972 she enrolled at the Conservatory G. Verdi in Milan, where she studied vocals, percussion, and electronic music. Casale's 1982 debut single "Didin" was followed by the Italian pop albums Casale in 1984 and Aspettarti in 1985. She appeared at the Fest di San Remo in 1986 singing the Italian pop ballad "Destiny."

Veering toward jazz in the late '90s, Casale performed at the Umbria Jazz Festival in Italy. Her first jazz album, Incoerente Jazz, was released in 1989. Although she has continued to explore the jazz realm, Casale continues to defy categorization. Her 1991 album Lo Strato Naturale represented a shift toward atmospheric jazz. A meeting with African group Toure Kunde sparked an interest in world music. Together with her quartet, featuring Riccardo Zegne, Luciano Milanese, Carlo Atti, and Luigi Bonafede, Casale continues to perform jazz standards by such American songwriters as Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Duke Ellington, and Thelonious Monk. In 1994, they recorded the album Jazz in Me in a whirlwind, four-day session.

Two highly accomplished musicians playing in a historic venue! For once, it is the place to determine the release and success of a record. The place is an ancient residential palace in the heart of Tuscany, a family property turned into a hotel which has become over the last years a meeting place for artists and musicians. The meeting in this case was between Scott Hamilton, Andrea Pozza, Giulio Cesare and Alfred Kramer on the occasion of a concert of the two musicians held in the music room of the historic venue.

The magic of music and location together has fascinated Giulio Cesare and just a few months later, they were back to the scene of the crime and what you are holding in your hands is the result. Brazilian poet Vinicius de Moraes wrote "a vida é a arte do encontro (life is the art of meeting), but certainly without humans meeting no artform could survive.

"I have been wanting to record with Andrea Pozza for twenty years, so this was a great opportunity for me. In addition we recorded at home in Certaldo Alto so the atmosphere was very relaxed and friendly. I am looking forward to hearing how I sound without any effects - just the very good natural acoustics of the Castello." -Scott Hamilton

"Few times in life one has the feeling to be in the right place at the right time. It happened to me in the cellar of Hotel Il Castello in Certaldo on the occasion of the recording of this album. To record with Scott Hamilton, one of my all time favourite musicians, in an extraordinary place with invaluable microphones skillfully maneuvered by Giulio Cesare Ricci, a real 'guru' of hifi recording, enjoying the hospitality Alfred Kramer (and his snare drum and brushes in a couple of takes) and the amazing food at Il Castello — what do you think, isn't that enough?" ~ Andrea Pozza

Francesco Cafiso Quartet - Seven Steps To Heaven

Francesco Cafiso surprised the jazz world with his blazing chops in his early teens during a stunning duo concert with veteran pianist Franco D'Andrea. Several years afterward, he is working on developing a distinctive style of his own, which is a challenge for any young musician. These 2006 sessions mix well-known jazz compositions of the 1940s and 1950s with timeless standards, with the alto saxophonist backed by a solid rhythm section consisting of pianist Andrea Pozza, bassist Aldo Zunino, and drummer Nicola Angelucci. He shows off a bit in a wild treatment of Thelonious Monk's "Green Chimneys" that starts in a funky manner, shifts to an aggressive hard bop mood, and also has an unaccompanied solo section. Cafiso's spry take of "Yesterdays" proves convincing, while the exotic rhythm setting of "My Funny Valentine" takes this chestnut into somewhat new territory. There are times where Cafiso reveals his youth by forcing in odd quotes that prove to be more of a distraction than help to his improvisations. But this CD indicates that Francesco Cafiso is serious about a career in jazz and not merely a young flash in the pan who will flame out after a brief foray into the limelight. ~ Ken Dryden  http://www.allmusic.com/album/seven-steps-to-heaven-mw0000772797

Scott Hamilton is a jazz tenor saxophonist associated with swing and mainstream jazz. Hamilton emerged in the 1970s and at the time was considered to be one of the few musicians of real talent who carried the tradition of the classic jazz tenor saxophone in the style of Ben Webster, Coleman Hawkins as well as Zoot Sims and Don Byas forward. Hamilton has recorded over 40 albums as a lead.

Jazz pianist Andrea Pozza made his debut at age 13 in the historic jazz club, Genoa. His career spans more than thirty years, has led him to perform in Italy and abroad with real "superstars" of the likes of Harry "Sweet" Edison, Bobby Durham, Chet Baker, Al Grey Scott Hamilton, George Coleman, Charlie Mariano, Lee Konitz, Sal Nistico, Massimo Urbani, Luciano Milanese and many others.

Andrea Celeste was born on August 31st 1986 in Pontedera, a small town in the Tuscan countryside close to Pisa. Since her childhood she’s always been keen on music – she spent hours playing her sisters’ keyboard and singing on the stairs outside her home, fascinated by the acoustics of that place. She played with notes and, without being fully aware of it, she started composing her first melodies. Music started as a game and soon became passion and commitment. Celeste was just eleven years old when she started studying piano and classical singing with Vittorio Scali. The encounter with this awesome teacher marked her musical life for good: he taught her the foundations of vocal technique and the strategies to ‘find her own voice’. His personal and technical advice has been fundamental for Celeste.

Her talent is undeniable – still a young girl, she started performing in public, and in her teenage years she started collaborating with important gospel artists like the Massimo Bracci’s St. Jacob’s Gospel Choir. Only a 14-year-old girl, Celeste made her debut in the world of gospel music with this choir and had the chance of meeting American singer Cheryl Porter. Cheryl had been invited to sing with the St. Jacob’s Choir – as luck would have it, one of the choir soloists got ill and Andrea Celeste was picked to replace her. Cheryl Porter had a chance to listen to her singing and was deeply struck by her gorgeous voice. So she invited Celeste to sing at the international workshop Gospel in Castel Brando (2002), where she was awarded a scholarship. Celeste shared the opening stage with Cheryl Porter, with Italian jazz singer Mario Biondi and with several young artists. Performing at the Castel Brando workshop was a chance to meet top artists like Terron Brooks, Ashley Davis, Huntley Brown, Michael and Regina Winans. She carried on studying and improving her vocal technique and she took part to several in-depth courses.
