René Franc (* 7 December in 1929 in Algiers ; † 2 April 2002 ) was a French jazz clarinetist and soprano saxophonist in the tradition of Sidney Bechet .Francesco began with violin and moved in 1946 to the clarinet in jazz. He played in the orchestras of Pierre Braslavsky , Claude Luter and André Réwéliotty and Sidney Bechet. He played from 1956 with his own band as well as, among others, Albert Nicholas , Bill Coleman , Peanuts Holland , Hal Singer .In 1980 he was awarded the Prix Sidney Bechet.He is the father of the soprano saxophonist and clarinetist Olivier Franc .
