"Boogie woogie has sometimes been described as limited and repetitive. Not so this set though! It had me hooked right from reading the sleeve notes, a wonderful, detailed interview with Detroit pianist Bob Seeley, who met Meade Lux Lewis (one of the original Boogie Woogie Trio) back in the 40s, and who left his mark on the young man as the four Lewis tracks here testify. The younger Spanish blues and boogie ace Lluís Coloma has come to my attention many times over the last few years and I can confirm that he is one excellent musician so put Coloma and Seeley together for a four-handed boogie fest and the expected fireworks sure do happen on this live set recorded in Madrid in 2011. The basses roll like thunder, but these guys can also slow it down and think outside the box (try Taboo).

Bob Seeley describes boogie-woogie as nothing but happy blues and thats just how I felt after listening to this. If youve ever been unsure about boogie, buy this CD. Recommended? You bet!" ~Norman Darwen

From his beginning this outstanding Catalan pianist has been developing a personal touch and an incredible left hand offering powerful performances full of virtuosity and creativity, where he breaks up the piano with hot and tasty organ Hammond B3 tunes. Being one of the most requested piano players in Spain and considered an specialist, he has lectured on the history of Blues and Boogie Woogie piano, being one of the few pianists in Spain able to recreate the primitive styles of this genre.

Lluís Coloma plays his own compositions in a performance full of power, dynamics and honesty. His music evokes the New Orleans pianists sound going trough Barrelhouse style to Chicago, cradle of electric Blues. In his new album, Lluis Colomas trio is accompanied by four saxophonists, a guitarist and a percussionist. His music is a pure boogie-woogie jazz.

Lluis Coloma (piano solo). Special appearance: Barrelhouse Chuck (vocal on #13). Recorded, mixed & mastered at Steve Yates recording Studio, Chicago, November 15,16 & 17, 2010. Produced by Barrelhouse Chuck.

If pianist Lluís Coloma is not the only practitioner of a genre that might be called "Latin boogie-woogie," he must be the major one. He demonstrates what that means at the outset of his sixth album, Rockin' My Blues in Chicago, on "Vicksburg Blues," in which he introduces an unusually syncopated left-hand pattern, and he reminds listeners of his Spanish roots in his version of "St. Louis Blues" by employing a tango rhythm. Elsewhere on a solo piano album devoted to standards of ragtime, stride, boogie-woogie, and blues, he can be more traditional. His version of "How Long Blues," for instance, presents it as a conventional slow piano blues, and his "Shreveport Farewell" shows a mastery of form in its ragtime playing, while "Chicago Breakdown" uses a typical boogie-woogie rhythm, nothing fancy. But Coloma does introduce his own embellishments into "St. James Infirmary," playing some cascading runs in the right hand. And throughout, he always keeps his rhythm playing lively, focusing on movement rather than the beat. This album represents his treatments of the classics in his field, and he manages to put his own individual stamp on them. ~William Ruhlmann
