Everything began in an off-the-grid cabin in the Colorado backwoods, where Bell wrote the bulk of Back Seat's 12 songs. The title track "Back Seat," which doubles as the album's only co-written tune (penned alongside fellow Coloradan Andy Ard), kicks things off with sultry vocals and the story of a career in motion, while "The Road is Always Longer" mixes blasts of brass with a subtle salute to blues-rock icons like Bonnie Raitt. Elsewhere, Bell gets atmospheric with the lushly layered "India,” gives herself a pep talk during "Get in the Flow," and rides a punchy, keyboard-heavy groove with "What Went Wrong," all before bringing Back Seat to a soothing stop with the chill, mid-tempo "Meet Me in the Space Between." Sharing the spotlight with electric piano, organ, electric guitar, saxophone, and even ukulele. With production by Evan Reeves  a fellow resident of Boulder, Colorado Back Seat is her most focused album to date, with songs that show the full range of her abilities. https://store.cdbaby.com/cd/lisabell14

The Italian Project is the product of a beautiful dream come true; one that embodies love, hope, and the overriding positive message that we can truly achieve anything we set our minds to. In 2009, Lisa Marie Simmons and I, who both attended high school at the same time in Boulder, CO, reconnected by Facebook for the first time in more than 25 years. This synchronistic virtual meeting resulted in a four-year international music adventure that included performances in Italy and Colorado, and culminated with co-writing (along with Bob Story) the 11 songs on this CD. We wrote the songs largely via Skype over a two-year period, and recorded tracks both in Italy and Colorado. While the writing and recording process has been lengthy and challenging at times, the journey has been priceless. The Italian Project is a big departure for Lisa Bell and her band, with heavy roots rock, country, bluegrass, pop and blues influences. Throughout the writing process, we used a theme of positive messages and beautiful stories of change, manifestation and empowerment. Some of the songs are uplifting. Others share important stories such as the challenges of homelessness, racism and our societal fears. All are designed to make the listener take heart and take action. The music is fun, fresh, upbeat and thought provoking. http://lisabellmusic.com/discography/the-italian-project/

Singer Lisa Bell was born and raised in Boulder, CO, where she first showed an interest in singing after being taken to Dionne Warwick and Ella Fitzgerald concerts when she was six. She sang in school choirs, and as a high school student was selected to be a member of the jazz choral group Excalibur, which performed material associated with the Manhattan Transfer and Lambert, Hendricks & Ross. She earned a scholarship to the Conservatory of Music at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, graduating with a B.A. in Communications and Vocal Performance. Settling in Kansas City, she had various singing jobs that included studio and jingle work, stage appearances in musicals, and concert performances as a backup vocalist for Bobby McFerrin. Moving back to Colorado, she became a member of the Colorado Symphony Chorus, the Boulder Philharmonic Chorus, and a vocal jazz quartet called Jazz on the Rocks. Her debut album, Dare to Be..., was released by Hapi Skratch Records in 2002 and featured her versions of jazz standards such as "Summertime" and "Do Nothin' Till You Hear from Me." The album's release led to her appearances in jazz clubs and at jazz festivals. For her second album, It's All About Love (2005), she took a different tack, writing most of the songs herself and using instruments not generally associated with jazz such as a Dobro and a pedal steel guitar. ~ William Ruhlmann https://itunes.apple.com/us/artist/lisa-bell/id58897081#fullText

With her premier full-length CD recording Lisa has taken a fresh look at popular jazz standards to create modern soulful renditions that are all her own. The CD also features her first recorded original, What Can I Do, on which Nelson Rangell adds his magic with Soprano Sax. As an artist, Lisa dares to be different, expressive and musically eclectic. Her first CD reflects her unique style, smooth vocals and a band of musicians second to none. From the first notes of Summertime with a searing Latin beat, to the final In a Sentimental Mood with its exquisitely poignant vocal/guitar arrangement, Dare To Be...provides variety and excitement for standard and "cool" jazz lovers of all kinds. Dare To Be...is presented on the Hapi Skratch Records label. Lisa Bell has loved and has been performing jazz since she can remember, receiving her BA degree in vocal performance with an emphasis in jazz from the Conservatory of Music at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. In Kansas City, Lisa worked with Bobby McFerrin, Marilyn Maye and Ida McBeth among others. She also recorded numerous jazz demo albums as well as jingles during her eight years in the Kansas City area. Lisa has been singing tight vocal harmonies since high school, and was a founder and member of two professional vocal ensembles, More or Less Jazz and Jazz on the Rocks. She writes original songs in jazz, pop and contemporary Christian realms. Lisa honed her vocal skills over the years by performing every genre of music from musical theater to opera and country western, but her true passion is vocal jazz. http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/lisabellmusic

Lisa Bell, who has a warm and attractive voice, performs music that is jazzy but crosses into other musical genres at times, a bit like Norah Jones, whom she recalls on the title cut of It's All About Love. A superior singer/songwriter, Bell wrote or co-wrote eight of the 12 selections on It's All About Love, all of which have to do with love of some sort. Based in Colorado, Bell mostly uses top local players including pianist John Armstrong, who co-wrote much of the material. Whether called jazzy pop or pop-oriented jazz, this set shows that Bell is a fine writer and a singer well worth hearing. Some of the tunes, including the title cut, "Ain't Divorce Grand," and "When You Look for Love," deserve to be covered by other singers. ~Scott Yanow  http://www.allmusic.com/album/its-all-about-love-mw0000344136
