Born in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Lisa Ono spent her childhood in Brazil until she became 10 years old. She started singing and playing the guitar when she was 15 years old, and her debut as a professional Bossa Nova singer was in 1989. Her natural voice, rhythmic guitar playing, and her charming smile led her to a huge success and helped Bossa Nova to be popular in Japan. She has performed with many top musicians such as the legendary Antonio Carlos Jobim, the Jazz Samba giant Joao Donato, and has been performing enthusiastically in New York, Brazil and Asian countries. The album “Dream”, which was released in 1999, sold more than 2 hundred thousand copies in Japan, and since than she has established a determined position in the Japanese Bossa Nova community. http://onolisa.com/eng/biography-3/

The latest album from one of the hippest Bossa Nova performers in the world, Lisa Ono's "SOUL & BOSSA" is out and what a wonderful and pleasant album. For those not familiar with Lisa Ono, Lisa's roots on bossa nova music came at an early age with her father having a club in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. When the family moved to Japan, her father opened up a restaurant which featured bossa nova and samba music.

Having released many albums since 1989 in English, French and Portguese, her 2007 album "SOUL & BOSSA" features the artist singing covers of popular songs such as Carol King's "You've Got A Friend", Otis Redding's classic"(Sittin' on) The Dock of the Bay", Marvin Gaye's "What's Going on", Stevie Wonder's "Overjoyed", James Brown's "I Got You (I Feel Good)" and much more and giving them a bossa nova spin.

Her takes on songs such as the James Brown and Marvin Gaye classic turns out remarkably well. I just found the bossa nova interpretations of the classics on this album done to be remarkably done and gives a fresh dulcet interpretation at the songs that many of us enjoyed for so long. ~Dennis A. After creating a huge number of bossa nova albums featuring music from other world music genres, Japanese singer Lisa Ono returned to her musical roots with an album dedicated specifically to Brazilian bossa nova master Antonio Carlos Jobim. To celebrate (posthumously) the composer's 80th birthday, Ono recorded a wide collection of Jobim's greatest pieces. "The Girl from Ipanema," "One Note Samba," and "Agua de Beber" are all present, though "Corcovado" is surprisingly absent, despite it being a favorite performance for Ono.
