Eileen Howard, a popular Columbus, Ohio actor and singer, debuts her first CD of jazz standards, recorded with the Erik Augis Trio, solidifying her 15-year reputation as an outstanding singer.

Howard recorded nine jazz standards on her CD "All Kinds of Weather" with Erik Augis on keys, Derek DiCenzo on bass and Matt Wagner on drums. Arrangements by Augis and Howard give the songs a fresh and unique feel.

Howard's sultry, smooth jazz vocals shine on laid-back ballads like 'Summer Me, Winter Me' and positively glow on the tune 'How Deep is the Ocean', arranged with deceptive simplicity for solo piano and voice. She swings with upbeat fun on 'Orange Colored Sky' and 'Come Rain or Come Shine'. Her passionate renditions of ''Round Midnight', 'It's Easy to Remember', and 'When the Sun Comes Out' evoke the memory of lost love. In short, an outstanding first release.

Fritz the Night Owl, Deejay on WJZA-WJZK Smooth Jazz Radio, featured the CD in March and April. He had this to say about "All Kinds of Weather":
"Backed by the always-swingin' Eric Augis Trio, Eileen breezes her way thru a varied selection of standards with ease. A terrific voice, fresh interpretations of well-known lyrics, and solid jazz sensibilites all contribute to this superb collection."

Brassy, sassy and sexy blues and ballads. Eileen Howard has been described as "singer well worth discovering" by Los Angeles Jazz Scene and as "one of the most creative and swingin’ singers ever to vocalize on the local jazz scene" by jazz deejay and reviewer Fritz "The Night Owl" Peerenboom. A New York and Columbus-based singer, Howard is well known for her swinging style, original compositions and engaging concerts. An award-winning actress, Howard performed in FOLLIES with Short North Stage at the historic Garden Theater in Columbus, forming a relationship that led to a series of sold-out Blues Cabarets in their intimate Green Room space the following winter. The cabarets blended Howard's acting skills, spontaneous humor, and passionate singing into a package that delighted audiences. Filled with sassy selections from blues artists as well as poignant ballads from The Great American Songbook, plus one original number, this album captures some of the excitement of the live show. Two of her "reasons to sing the blues" give just a taste of the spoken part of the cabaret act. The album includes numbers performed by legendary blues singers like Bessie Smith (I Need a Little Sugar in My Bowl), Willie Dixon (Built for Comfort), and Ida Cox (Wild Women Don't Have the Blues) as well as more recent blues such as Saffire: The Uppity Blues Women (He Really Makes it Hard for Me to Sing the Blues) and Mose Allison's Everybody's Cryin' Mercy. Poignant and intimate standards such as Body and Soul, Fever and One for My Baby show Howard's vocal and emotional range.http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/eileenhoward4

Critically acclaimed jazz and blues singer/composer Eileen Howard will release her fifth CD, Big City Love, an eclectic musical tribute to love in, and for, the city.

This intensely personal collection of jazz, funk and blues includes four originals composed and arranged by Howard, each a reflection on her 37 year journey of love with her husband, George Howard. Originally a transplant from Ohio, who has lived all over the world, she selected songs on the album to celebrate her adopted city of New York. Howard conceived and arranged a funky version of the classic Kander and Ebb standard, “New York, New York." Her unique arrangement of Roger and Hart’s “Manhattan," using translations of some of its words, is a tribute to the waves of immigrants who wanted to ‘take Manhattan’. Other songs include, “I’ll Take it All," a musical theater composition by up-and-coming New York composers Sam Carner and Derek Gregor. Till Now is a world premier by Nashville composer Thomas O’Connell. “Big City" and “Sunday in New York" were arranged by internationally recognized music director, composer and artist, Michael Raye, who also plays keyboard on the album and was the recording and mixing engineer.

Other talented personnel on the album include Nat Janoff on guitar, Eddy Khaimovich on bass, Darrell Smith on drums, Daniel Bennett on flute and sax, and Matthew Owens on trumpet.

Jazz Journalist, Marcia Hillman, wrote about Big City Love, “With this latest offering, Eileen Howard continues to reach her listening audience with her storytelling ability by singing from the heart with her powerful, melodious voice.” Scott Yanow, L.A. Jazz Scene, called Howard a “very appealing singer with a powerful voice and a joyful personality” and “a singer well worth discovering.” Edward Blanco said, “This lady can definitely sing up a storm with a voice that allows her to reach and hit the high notes with effortless ease...lush velvet voice. A very impressive vocal performance.” Blues Music said: “She harnesses the genre as one of those rare entertainers with the sensitivity and witty flair to deeply evoke the human sensibility.” Deejay Fritz “The Night Owl” called her “One of the most creative and swingin’ singers ever to vocalize on the local jazz scene.” And music review blog, “Wildys World” said, “Eileen Howard sings like a Diva, vamps like a Rat-Pack veteran and generally entertains like few others can...” Her 25-year career as an actress and singer has been studded with awards for musical performance and acting.

Howard previously released a live recording of her sold out “Blues Cabaret” called Blues in the Green Room, which has been praised by music reviewers, two critically acclaimed jazz CD’s, and an eclectic CD of spiritual tunes of her own composition.
