There is an anniversary to celebrate in 2016. Friend ’n Fellow is looking back on 25 musical years together.

Since 1991, when it all began with a concert in Leipzig, a lot has happened:
Tours throughout Europe, Asia and the USA
10 CDs and over 100,000 recordings sold
Evenings with Ray Charles, Al Jarreau and Luther Allison
Music for Box-Events and Formel 1 teams…

But what is much more special are the intimate, unique and moving moments during one of their live concerts.

Depth, class and entertainment – and focussing on the essence of good songs.
And so their new album Silver Live offers a whole hour of pure Friend ’n Fellow – recorded up close in full intensity during their About April tour in 2015.
Wonderful guitar sound and an extraordinary voice, or as one critic wrote so fittingly: One voice, one guitar – and the rest is amazement.

In the meantime, they became the favorites of the HiFi scene with their intense reduction to the essentials and their sound. Their reputation as outstanding live musicians with concerts in many countries over the world was documented with the double album Live. After some of the albums of these early years were not available anymore, their new label Doctor Heart Music decided to release a CD-Box with all 6 CDs.

For the first time, Fairy Godmother will also be available in stores - an album that the two musicians have sold exclusively at their concerts.

"The music of FRIEND 'N FELLOW is calming. It picks you up when you're down - not the other way around! In 2005, they released their album Covered with the song »Light My Fire«. It's simply a uniquely positive song. If you asked me, I couldn't tell you exactly what it is. Then I started getting all these songs offered to me as entrance music. There were good and bad ones, but none of them had that one-of-a-kind feeling..."

The story began when Axel and his wife Patricia attended a Friend 'n Fellow concert simply to enjoy an evening of outstanding music. Axel was so taken with the duo's sound that one night, he decided to call Constanze Friend and ask her about supplying the entrance music for his upcoming fight. Completely surprised, Friend called her guitarist Thomas Fellow with the news. One thing led to another and eventually a friendship developed...

Since Schulz and the musicians were on the same wavelength, he quickly realized that only the music of Friend 'n Fellow possessed the power and the energy to motivate him for the fight of his life - his comeback fight on the so-called "Night of Answers" on November 25th.

On Purple Rose, Friend 'n Fellow -- lyricist/vocalist Constanze Friend and composer Thomas Fellow -- pay tribute to the spirit of the late Luther Allison with a selection of mostly original pieces, although there are a couple of rock covers in Bob Dylan's "Forever Young" and Steve Miller's "Fly like an Eagle." The ensemble's instrumentation is mostly acoustic -- highlighted by the organ and drum work of brothers Mathias and Alexander Bätzel, respectively -- and the music often roams the middle ground between jazz and blues. ~by Steve Huey

11. Purple Haze (3:01)
12. Overjoyed (3:30)

On their CD Taxi, Friend 'n Fellow reveals the latest progress they have made on a long journey, which we can only hope will have many more miles.

This new double portion of magical voice and rich guitar-grooves follows their debut at Ruf- Records with the CD Home (1997) and the following album Purple Rose (1998). They see their music as 'acoustic soul', but beware: you won't be spared any surprising excursions into other musical fields!

Friend n' Fellow are a lively counterpoint in the American-dominated music market. They are perfectly comfortable in the company of the best musicians of their genre, and have been recognised with respect by stars like Ray Charles, Al Jarreau or Keb 'Mo. The great legend of the Blues, Luther Allison, was their mentor and supporter, teacher and enthusiastic fan, to which he "outed" himself during their common European tour in 1997.

It is hard to resist the connectedness of these extraordinary musicians. Virtuosity and absolute control over their means of expression make Friend 'n Fellow a perfect live performance.

What are the essentials of powerful musical expression? We believe a soulful black female voice and a virtuoso acoustic guitar. Provided they are of the caliber of Friend 'n Fellow. Depth, class and entertainment from an exceptional duo that plays so efficiently that they actually should be called a "band" with their incredible dynamics and emotionality. The names of these two experienced musicians are: Constanze Friend (vocals) studied modern voice in Weimar. As the singer of the R&B Band "Mr Adapoe", Constanze was a guest at many European festivals, e.g. as a support act for Alvin Lee and James Brown. Thomas Fellow (guitars) studied concert guitar for seven years in Weimar. He has won prizes at international competitions and has been on concert tours throughout Europe, the U.S.A. , India and South America. Professor Thomas Fellow is the chairman of the Department of Guitar/World Music at the Conservatory of Music in Dresden, and conducts courses at various other music conservatories and festivals.

Friend 'n Fellow have been performing as a duo since 1991. Concerts in London, Paris, New York, Peking, Vienna, Zurich, Lucerne Festival (Lucerne, Switzerland), Tollwood-Festival Munich, Festival Internacional de la Porta Ferrada (Spain), 1st Blues & Soul Weekend (Zurich, Switzerland), Simmen Lörrach, Jazzrally Dusseldorf with Ray Charles, Al Jarreau, Simply Red, Marianne Faithful, Maceo Parker.

In the music of FRIEND 'N FELLOW the intensity of blues, the sound of soul and the freedom of jazz unite in a very unique way. Deeply impressed and moved, the audience follows the virtuoso way these two exceptional musicians perform together.

April — the month that doesn’t promise anything but instead challenges our patience or causes us to smile, that can surprise us over and over again and make us happy — that is the starting point for FRIEND ‘N FELLOW’s 10th album with 12 new songs. Music that is enchanting, inviting and moving... Stories about a jumping dog, the lemon yellow sun, the signpost, the guardian angel’s tree and of course about April...

The Friend voice and the Fellow sound — recognizable, unmistakable, just incredible!

FRIEND ‘N FELLOW’s trademark has been to concentrate on the quintessence for far more than 1,000 concerts, 9 albums and 100,000 records sold. The duo celebrates its intense musical dialogue with the low voice that deeply touches us and the guitar sound that takes us far away.

Constanze FRIEND and Thomas FELLOW have long since discovered their own unique language that surprises and thrills the audience, focusing on the core of the songs, the essence of the music. That is why the uncountable forms and colors of April are just the right theme for their new album.

The music of FNF effortlessly unifies what seems to be opposites. Blues? Jazz? Soul? Music that is often pegged to be separate ends up together with FNF. They play with the timbres of soul, the intensity of blues and the freedom of jazz. And there is always ample room for listening.

A voice — unmistakeable and low. A complete band consisting of two hands and just one instrument. And a dozen vivid songs about April.

That is all you need.
