Group formed in November 1995, based on the initiative of Alexis Cuadrado and Guim Garcia- double bass and alto sax, respectively-, with the common goal of researching, sharing and developing their own concepts in the language of improvisation, leaving the way Free of any idea or attractive influence to its members, without any stylistic limit imposing its excess weight. The idea of forming Alguimia therefore arises spontaneously, without any initial approach or prejudice, and this is how its members want it to be the music they play in this group. The wide experience of each of the components of Alguimia in the field of Jazz makes the sound of the group an attractive combination of elements that range from spontaneity and the risk to maturity, never neglecting the freshness and energy on the stage. The group's repertoire is based on original compositions by two of its members, -Guim García and Alexis Cuadrado-, thus introducing a totally original view of Jazz in the music scene of our time. With an enthusiastic audience and critique, Alguimia has played in the most important clubs in Barcelona and the surrounding areas: Jamboree, Blue Note, BCN Pipa Club, Nova Jazz Cava de Terrassa, etc. He has also participated in numerous festivals such as Altaveu Frontera '96, Ciutat V Jazz Festival

Carme Canela is over 50 years old and has been singing professionally for more than three decades, so it must be assumed that her appearance as “new talent” is an attempt to broaden her audience. The most obvious link with jazz is a fine rendition of uncredited English lyrics to Monk’s Pannonica. Otherwise the eclectic repertoire (including Julia by Lennon and McCartney) underlines what I’ve gleaned that she doesn’t see herself as purely a jazz singer. Nevertheless the excellent backing trio is clearly working within the jazz idiom and Carme-la combines musicality and emotion in a delightful manner, with moods and tempos nicely varied. ~ Graham Colombé, Jazz Journal

Personnel:  Carme Canela - vocals;  Joan Monné - piano;  Marko Lohikari - bass;  David Xirgu - drums

"It has been awhile that we have wanted to record in this minimalistic format, a duet; simple but complex at the same time. We wanted to do it by interpreting ballads, which is one of the things we most enjoy. We have chosen compositions that move us, both because of their musical beauty as well as, in most cases, their profound lyrics. And we have prepared them for you, in our own way, without much arrangement, almost raw. This is how we like to express ourselves, using melodies and harmonies that are true jewels. It’s like preparing a dish with good ingredients in an essential way, without sauces or sophisticated cookeries, so as to appreciate the true taste of the organic material. We hope you enjoy listening to this music as much as we did cooking it."~ Carme Canela https://www.freshsoundrecords.com/carme-canela-joan-monne/6717-ballads-digipack.html
