A great example of the Kenton powerhouse in action – a live recording that really set a new standard for jazz sets of its type! The album features a side apiece dedicated to each of the three acts – one by Kenton's orchestra, one by Christy on vocals, and one by the Four Freshmen – the latter two supported by Kenton's group on their own sides, then joining together for a final fourth side that features all artists together. The approach is a great one – very vibrant, and certainly crowd-pleasing – and titles include "Artistry In Rhythm", "My Old Flame", "I Want To Be Happy", "Midnight Sun", "Day In Day Out", "Angel Eyes", and "Love For Sale".

Tim wrote the title composition and references, in an unusual way, Dudley Hill with couple of his titles. Michael dedicated a tune to Dick Stein of KNKX, who gave us the nickname the "mighty engine of rhythm" We hope you like it.

A superior bop pianist influenced by Bud Powell, Claude Williamson has been busy playing on the West Coast since the 1950s. The older brother of trumpeter Stu Williamson, Claude started on piano when he was seven and had ten years of classical piano lessons, also studying at the New England Conservatory. Williamson's first major musical job was with Charlie Barnet's orchestra in 1947. This was followed by stints with Red Norvo (1948), Barnet's bebop big band of 1949, and June Christy (1950-51). In the 1950s, Williamson worked regularly with Bud Shank, Howard Rumsey's Lighthouse All-Stars, with his own trios, and as a studio musician. He spent most of the 1960s and '70s in the studios, although he returned to jazz in the 1980s with his improvising style virtually unchanged. Claude Williamson -- who has led sessions for Capitol (1954-1955), Bethlehem, Criterion, Contract (1961-1962), Sea Breeze (1977), Interplay, Discovery, Fresh Sound, and a few Japanese labels -- recorded a memorable tribute to Bud Powell for V.S.O.P. in 1995. This set is a thoroughly engaging collection of performances from three albums the Oscar Peterson Trio devoted to three well-known Broadway shows. My Fair Lady was recorded in 1958, in the interval between the departure of guitarist Herb Ellis and the arrival of drummer Ed Thigpen. Occupying the drum chair for this date is Gene Gammage, who fits in seamlessly with the peerless Ray Brown. Thigpen comes in for the remaining albums, Porgy and Bess (1959) and Fiorello! (1960) and locks into place one of the greatest of all the Peterson trios. Peterson himself who could sometimes be overwhelming plays with marked restraint all the way, while Brown and Thigpen provide stirring, swinging backing in what is an unfailingly stimulating combination.

Earl Hines leads an all-star septet during a circa-1968 live concert that likely came from a radio broadcast. But before the full band is introduced, the veteran pianist romps through a stride-filled medley of "Black Coffee," "Bluesette," and "I've Got the World on a String." Hines features his soloists individually, playing brief trio numbers in between them, beginning with clarinetist Bob Donovan in a leisurely "At Dawn," followed by a boisterous muted trombone solo by Booty Wood in the blues "Minnie H." Budd Johnson shines on soprano sax in a swinging "Do It Yourself." The full group is finally featured in "Satin Doll," at first just scatting in unison to the rhythm section, then as instrumentalists in a brisk reprise of this chestnut. While this must have been a terrific performance to hear in person, the sound suffers from overmodulation in a number of spots, while the lack of liner notes gives no clue as to the reason this group was assembled. This is an odd and rather interesting record. Eddie Daniels, who at the time was still largely unknown, plays clarinet and occasional alto in commercial settings while backed by a large rhythm section, reeds, strings and even some voices; typical for an overproduced Columbia album of the period. The material is largely forgettable but Daniels' clarinet playing is so brilliant that he completely overcomes the surroundings and drastically uplifts the music. Recorded live in Tokyo, the great pianist McCoy Tyner performs three of his best originals ("Passion Dance," "Search For Peace" and "Song Of The New World") plus two John Coltrane songs ("Moment's Notice" and "The Promise"). He takes three selections unaccompanied while "Moment's Notice" and "Song Of The New World" are with a trio including bassist Ron Carter and drummer Tony Williams. This Lp (long overdue to be reissued on CD) has plenty of fiery and passionate music. In 1965, June Christy could look back on 20 years of great music, but her best work was definitely behind her. The voice that could whisper or bite was beginning to reveal unintentional flaws, and for her album, Something Broadway Something Latin, she resorted to a bid for the mainstream with something for everyone. As such, the songs come from a variety of sources, mostly Broadway hits of the day, sprinkled with one current movie hit (none of which quite survived to be standards, with the possible exception of the movie hit "The Shadow of Your Smile"). Producer Bill Miller and arranger Ernie Freeman looked to the pop charts for their sound (mostly Brill Building tropes), and although Christy never needed to belt out her songs to sound bewitching, she sounds a little tired and uninspired by her surroundings. The highlights come from a pair of songs perfect for her introspection, "The Shadow of Your Smile" and "Here's That Rainy Day."

Charles Cochran is a singer and pianist. Fred Astaire wrote that “I think one of the main reasons for Charlie Cochran’s success is his devotion to his art. It seems that he takes hold of a song as if he owns it… .” Rex Reed stated that “His songs are stylish and sophisticated, and so is he.” He played the New York cabaret scene during its glory years in the 1950s and 1960s, at which time he knew fellow singers Nina Simone and Anita O’Day. Fred Astaire invited Cochran to record for Ava Records, a label Astaire created in 1962. Cochran’s discography includes Presenting Charlie Cochran (Ava Records, 1963), ‘Round Midnight (Ava Records, 1964), Haunted Heart (Audiophile Records, 1982), Evening Serenade (Cumberland Records, 1999), Charles Cochran Meets Bill Mays (Audiophile Records, 2001), The Saturn Session (5 Pianist/Singers, 2001), and Live in New York (Lanier Hall, 2006). He has played Gotham’s Playroom, the Apartment, the Memory Lane, the Tender Trap, the Living Room, Jillys, Tavern on the Green, Danny’s Skylight Room, and the Metropolitan Room, among others. His admirers have included Anita O’Day, Bobby Short, Lee Wiley, Jeri Southern, and Judy Garland, who was his house guest in the late 1960s. Cochran’s friendship with Garland is recounted in Gerald Frank’s Judy (Da Capo Press, 1975), John Meyer’s Heartbreaker (Doubleday, 1983; Citadel Press, 2006), and Gerald Clarke’s Get Happy (Random House, 2001). Cochran currently resides in West Palm Beach. In 2006, he was honored with the “Return to Cabaret” Bistro Award for his shows at Danny’s Skylight Room.

Vivian Buczek was born in Malmoe, Sweden with Polish roots. She studied at Malmoe Academy of Music where she graduated in 2003. She already started performing and recording during her studies and has developed into one of Sweden’s foremost jazz singers today. She has a remarkable range and feeling for the jazz idiom and has made a number of appearances with both international and Swedish celebrities.

I grew up with an array of musical influences. My mother, a professional ballet dancer; had the family record player spinning Beethoven, Mozart, Tchaikovsky and various Broadway musicals. When the records did stop; my father played flamenco guitar with really cool syncopated Latin rhythms. And my older sister would listen to the local am radio station introducing me to a plethora of musical genres so between them all; they formed the inspiration and foundation for my musical dreams and the obligatory nightmares

After performing in 52 cities around the world and over 2,800 performances to her credit, (which she proudly thanks Las Vegas for that astonishing number) Sarah is truly at home on stage. Her sassy and playful attitude combined with her natural ease and sincere passion creates an emotionally charged and captivating experience with the audience. Sarah has toured with a variety of show bands including her own band throughout the United States; performing at corporate engagements, U. S. Military events and the show rooms of Las Vegas. She has performed live with numerous well known artists such as the Jordanaires, the Guy Lombardo Orchestra, The Letterman, Debbie Reynolds, Jerry Lewis, Wayne Newton, and Porter Wagner.

When Sarah accidentally met Producer Keith Olsen; under the guise of him being a salesman for Dolby, a bonding friendship was formed. Later Keith produced her CD, self entitled “Sarah” which received nationally syndicated airplay.

In the mid 1980s Mercer Ellington, the son of legendary American Composer/Bandleader Duke Ellington made several attempts to get his father’s posthumous big band in the studio to record albums in order to stay relevant. While recording in L.A., he employed both East Coast and West Coast nuclei, which were utilized for Mercer’s touring band. On Harlem Throwbacks, the focus was to do modern recreations of records made in the Cotton Club days of the late 1920s up to the early 1940s. At the age of three Urs started playing little melodies on the piano. Later he developed a great passion for playing drums. With his teacher Pierre Favre he began to target a career as a jazz drummer. At the young age of 12 he was already touring with the Big Band of Fernsehen DRS, the national TV station, and was soon regarded as one of the greatest young talents of the Swiss music scene. What followed were several years of gigs in the best reputated jazz clubs in Switzerland where he played with his older brother, the jazz pianist Chris Wiesendanger.

When Urs turned 15 he began to write his first pop songs and also started producing. He definitely gave his career a new direction. Only a short while later he began producing full time.

Since then Urs has worked with a lot of the best known Swiss artists like DJ Bobo, Nubya and the Swiss Idol show winner Carmen Fenk. He produced half of the album of Carmen Fenk in early 2004 and wrote one song for her. Urs, without exaggeration, can be titled as one of the most skillful arrangers and producers in Europe. He’s worked many times in Los Angeles with some of the greatest musicians there like Jeff Lorber, sax players Dave Koz and Warren Hill, producer Mickey Petralia, drummer John Robinson, guitarists Chris Camozzi, Michael Landau and Dean Parks, vocalist Warren Wiebe and and countless others.

One of the top organists to emerge since Joey DeFrancesco, Larry Goldings began piano lessons when he was nine. Goldings, who graduated from the New School for Social Research in the late '80s, was Jon Hendricks' accompanist during 1987-1989, worked with Jim Hall for three years, and (inspired by Jimmy Smith) led a trio that gave him an opportunity to play organ. He worked on the Hammond B-3 with Maceo Parker, and in 1990 recorded his first set for Minor Music. Since then, Goldings has toured and recorded with John Scofield and signed with Warner Bros., releasing a series of albums, including 1995's Whatever It Takes, 1996's Awareness, and 1999's Moonbird. Voodoo Dogs was issued a year later, with As One following in early 2001. In 2002, Goldings issued the science fiction-themed Sweet Science. Quartet showcased Goldings' piano chops in 2003. He returned in 2007 with Long Story Short and paired up with saxophonist Harry Allen for 2010's When Larry Met Harry. Larry's most recent recording, Music From The Front Room, is a freshly untraditional piano trio outing, with Larry playing Steinway upright piano, and features David Piltch on bass, and Jay Bellerose on drums.

Born in Iino, Kinuta cho, Okinawa Prefecture. Began to learn classical piano from 4 years old. After graduating from high school in Tokyo, he studied classical expertly at Naomi Gakuen Music College · Department of Music Department of Piano Studies. After graduation, I returned to Okinawa and belonged to the Music Academy to serve as a lecturer for piano, and started playing songwriting performances at the resort hotel lounge in the prefecture. Stephen’s latest CD is a guest release on the Harp Guitar Music label, and an amazing, unprecedented work in every way. It’s one of the coolest “concept albums” one could imagine – Classic Rock tunes on harp guitar! Most are covered here for the first time ever as solo instrumental acoustic fingerstyle arrangements. This is the CD that Stephen Bennett was born to make and that Baby Boomers (and their children) everywhere will fall in love with!

Stephen cut his teeth in various rock bands, and these tunes are in his blood. But they’re more than nostalgia; they are great, classic tunes. And so he’s arranged 15 memorable songs by many of his favorite rock bands and performers. And not just his – a lot of us grew up on these songs, and they play them to this day on “Classic Rock” stations for new fans the world over.

It was high time to revisit them (no pun intended). Amazingly, the acoustic Dyer harp guitar proved itself the perfect instrument to capture and distill all the guitars, bass, drums, organs and vocals of the original classics. But of course, only master Bennett could pull it all off!
