In 2004 trumpeter/trombonist Randy Reinhart joined the Danish saxophonist Jesper Thilo's sextet to celebrate the centenary of the birth of the legendary Count Basie's birth. Rather than copying Basie recordings not for note, the musicians recreate a musical way of thinking and feeling epitomized by the Basie band and its smaller spinoffs in the great pre-war period. This sextet plays in the great tradition but bring to it their own inventiveness.
