This 1983 CD is a straight reissue of Marlene Ver Planck's first album, a Savoy set that has since been reissued on CD by Denon in their Savoy series. With assistance from trumpeter Joe Wilder, flutist Herbie Mann, pianist Hank Jones, bassist Wendell Marshall and drummer Kenny Clarke, Ver Planck (who had a very impressive voice from the start) brings sincere emotion and a light swing to her renditions of ten ballads from the 1932-44 period. ~by Scott Yanow

  1. You put "The Lady in the Gown" review on the Marlene post; not a complaint mind you - Silky is TOPS!

  3. Your warm and humorous manner of answering put a smile on my face this morning. Thank you for making Marlene's singing stand out among so many beautiful voices you brought after your vacation. We missed you!

  4. At the end of my download (via Zippy)I got a message saying "O arquivo MarleneVerPlanckT....rar pode ser perigoso. Por isso, ele foi bloqueado pelo Chrome." Same message when I tried the same download via other hosting sites. I tried Explorer. Explorer had a worse chilique than Chrome. Exlorer told me my computer had been infected with malware. Had exactly the same experience a couple of weeks ago on the blog Nabulabula, by the way. I know our SilkyD friends aren't putting up infected files, and I have every confidence that Zippy and its fellows and competitors are also clean. Anyone else having the problem? Anyone know where the glitch is?
