An excellent modern jazz date, this session features pianist Xavier Davis and his quartet playing modernized versions of eight standards (including "The Nearness of You," "Jitterbug Waltz," "Where or When," and Carole King's "You've Got a Friend") plus two of Davis' originals. Along with the leader, the lead voice is frequently Don Braden on tenor and soprano, with fine support from bassist Dwayne Burno and drummer Carl Allen.
