A Striking solo piano album from the renowned new orleans pianist. Ellis Marsalis began his musical career as a tenor saxophonist, switching to piano while in high school. During the late '50s, Ellis trod the lonely road of modernist jazz in new orleans (with drummer ed blackwell), recorded with cannonball and nat adderley in the '60s and between 1967 and 1970, played the piano in trumpeter Al Hirt's band.
